Sunset
District 1
The winds were freezing. Yuan got out of his house with his coat on. He wasn't entirely sure he wanted to walk all the way to the forest, were he built his little hut 2 years ago, but feeling as he wanted a little solitude, he decided he would walk straight to the location of his hideaway. He knew it was nestled deep within the woods, where almost nobody could actually find it, and that he was still in the limits of his District, keeping him from the wrath of the ever so threatening Peacekeepers of District 1. For him, this long trek to the woods was only a matter of isolation. Who could blame him? He just loved being alone and this place was just the perfect spot for him to forget about the outside world and just think of other things... Like training, perhaps.
This hut he built would always be part of his memories. The death of his father was already way behind him, but the tense relationship he had with his mother and brother was just unbearable. He felt like if he didn't go, he would actually kill someone. So, one day, when he was 13, after a bitter argument with his family, he ran away from home, angry and confused about the reasons which would push his family not to understand him. He went into the forest, trying to get away from his problems. However, he forgot one little detail, one he shouldn’t have forgotten... The forest was dark and empty. His old fears were starting to plague him again, this time with unbelievable power. He couldn't bare the sight of the trees trying to grab him. He ran as fast as he could, until he found many branches lying on the ground. Acting on instinct, he simply took as much branches as he could and tried to make a fire. A manoeuvre that succeeded.
After this fateful night, he had an idea. Anytime he would feel alone, depressed or simply at odds with the ones he hold dear, he would simply go to the forest and stay there until he would calm down. It was a better option than to stay in a house where he could commit atrocious deeds every time he had an argument. For the next few weeks, he simply started to build his sanctuary, this heavenly place where he could go to be at peace with himself. Bringing all the tools he could find in order to accomplish that task, he began to create his shelter out of the materials he could gather in the forest: wood, rocks, leaves. Soon, his work was done. He started to install more useful things that would help him in the future: he created training dummies out of stray he found near the end of the road, and brought everything he could find in order to create a training ground besides his makeshift house. He also brought his father’s rapier, the last thing he had to remind him of this great man in his eyes. Every time he would gaze upon it, the fond memories of the time he spent with his father would come back to him, and he would start to cry. Fortunately for him, nobody would be here to see him succumb to his emotions... Well, until today, that is.
On this day of November, he came back to his shelter. His mother got angry again, and he was about to reply with unhindered violence. He didn’t want to do that... His only option was to run away again, so he wouldn’t hurt his little brother. Jet was too young to see this happen. The poor kid should never have witnessed it, never. He reached his shelter and went inside, not before lighting the fire right outside the wooden house. He then took his rapier and went outside again, focusing all of his anger on the dummies. One of them was completely destroyed, falling in a rain of hay at Yuan’s feet. He then fell to the ground. His body began to shake, moved by anger and desperation. When he felt he was alone, he let all his emotions run out. An angry, but mostly sad scream, rushed out of his lips as tears began flowing down. He couldn’t bear it anymore.
He suddenly heard very light footsteps on the ground of the forest. He wiped the tears off his face and took his rapier with agility before coming back on his feet, startled and afraid. By the time he could even realize what was going on, a figure made its appearance in the dark forest.
