Phenon was fast and he was strong. I gasped as his trident hit me in the chest, just barely missing my heart, and staggered. I could taste blood in my mouth and i knew that wasn't a good sign. I had to be faster and dodge his next blow. Thank ripred he didn't hit my heart I thought. Blood fell over my shirt, turning the white red like a flower against snow. It was oddly beautiful. I raised my sword, my hands shaking slightly. If I can't dance tomorrow, there's going to be hell to pay I thought, glaring at him. I launched myself at him, using my speed to hopefully knock him off balance. He was sturdy, I'd give him that but could he beat the momentum I had. I knew all about momentum from being a dancer, the less momentum we had, usually the lighter we landed and the less chance we had of injury. This time, though, I wanted to injure my opponent, this arrogant boy who'd refused to tell me his name from the start and I'd only learned it because Darren had accidentally said it. "That was only a warm up. Also, don't you dare severe any limbs, I need to dance tomorrow and I can very well do that without one of my limbs." I knew that in a fight, there was always the risk of losing a limb, i'd seen it happen a number of times but I really didn't want it to happen to me.

I barreled into him, the momentum I'd built up from darting around the ring sending both of us back. I darted out of reach before, with my sword raised, I attacked him again with an intent on landing a blow while he was stunned.

As his leg came off, I felt myself turn a little green. I hadn't meant to severe his leg. He crawled towards me and I felt pity for him well up inside me. "I'm sorry..." He attacked me with his trident, giving me a shallow cut on my arm. I pushed down the pity welling up inside me and felt the fire in my heart return. He'd be able to get a prosthetic leg, thank ripred they provided those for us here in district one. I knew in some of the other districts, if you lost a limb, it could be devastating. Here in district one though, it was a piece of cake to get a lost limb replaced, it happened enough times that the Capitol had decided to let them all get prosthetic limbs for little or no charge. She looked down at him, her chest still bleeding. She had blood on her face from having put her hair up and she knew she'd scare the shit out of Ella when she went to practice. She could just imagine Ella's response "Scar, holy crap, what the hell happened to you?" "I got into a fight with this guy who needed to be taught a lesson about not being so arrogant" she smiled at the thought before she swung her sword at Phenon.

I look at him. "Really your sorry? I really..... don't believe you at all and you shall pay for what you did to me." he says, a sneer in his voice. My gray eyes turn steely. "Don't you dare feel sorry for me I don't want none of your damn pity...." so he didn't want my pity, well then, I won't give him any. "Ripred, I thought you were, you know, a decent human being who actually had some feelings, obviously, I was so very wrong" I say, my voice turning bitter. "You know, you're just like my dad, even though you're sober, you're still an ass hat" I growl. His trident grazes my forehead and I feel a trickle of blood fall down my face. This will horrify poor Ella. At least we have like madly skilled doctors who work here in the district. "You know what, I don't care, I don't care if you want my pity or not, I'm a HUMAN BEING who actually feels something, I'm sorry, I'm sorry I'm not a bloodthirsty career, I don't want to be bloodthirsty because all my life I've had to deal with a person like that. I hate it and ripred knows, sometimes I feel like that's the kind of person I'm becoming." I say, my voice rising. I can feel tears welling up in my eyes but I push them away. "I'm sorry I'm not perfect" I say softly, forcing back the tears. I look back at Phenon, a scowl on my face and I launch myself at him, more ferocious than before. I send him onto his back and I land on him, my sword raised just above his neck. "Now, you'll understand why I'm this way" I could kill him here and now but I'm not that kind of person. I'm not a killer. I'm not a murderer and I'm not about to have his blood on my hands. I attack him, not aiming for his neck purposely.

"I am a damn career not some feint hearted kid. I want to represent my district and win the hunger games and I wont be able to do that if I am afraid to kill. You have the makings of a killer so end it." He says. I look at him. "A career doesn't just kill, we have mercy too. It's not always about killing, it's also about honor. There would be no honor in killing you" I say quietly. There would not be any honor in killing him, plus I'd experienced enough death in this lifetime, probably more than he'd ever experienced. My guard was down which gave him the perfect opportunity to stab me in the bicep with his trident. "and just so you know, I'm not afraid to kill, I just don't want to kill because I don't want your blood on my hands." I say, holding my arm. We aren't fighting to the end but we are getting damn close. I lift my sword, intending to put it down, when I'm hit on the arm. "I'm ending this" I say.
