I am a heart that’s hard to pin
You are an arrow sticking in
I pull you out and put you down
With all the others scattered round
You are an arrow sticking in

Ashes' feet made no sound as she ventured timidly into the woods around her district. She'd never really been into the forest except with an escort so being out her on her own was weird. What am I doing out here she wondered, looking around at the unfamiliar territory. She knew this next reaping, her name was in quite a few times, making her more likely to go into the arena. It would be good for her to get some survival skills. I'm just spending the night, nothing to be concerned with, She told herself, feeling her heart hammer in her chest. She was afraid of what would happen to her, what they would do to her if they found her out here on her own. She wandered around, searching for edible berries she could identify on site and found a good clump of them just begging to be picked and eaten. They were salmon berries, some of the best she'd ever tasted, but then again, the ones she usually got had been processed by the poor people of district nine. She let the juice stay on her tongue, enjoying the sweet taste of the berry before she swallowed and continued walking, listening to the mockingjays in the canopy above her head.
As she walked, Ashes felt herself begin to relax. She settled into a comfortable pace but didn't go too far, so that she wouldn't get lost. Unfortunately, her sense of direction was seriously lacking and she found herself lost. Great job Ash, go get yourself lost, smart she thought harshly. She had brought her medication with her for the next morning but had only brought enough for a few days before she'd run out and would start to go through withdrawl, which she knew would happen if she went into the arena. Her mother had warned her that some of the side affects included mood swigs and sudden outbursts of violence. She pushed those thougts away and continued wandering.
As night began to fall, she knew she had to find somewhere to spend the night in that she would be protected from the elements. She found a good make shift den under some tree roots and settled in for the night. The sun had set behind the trees and the clearing around her was dark not giving away the figure hidden within it before she heard a branch break. she sat up, startled. "Wh-h0's there?" She asked, her voice conveying the fear she felt.
You won’t give up that easy though
You turn to roots a tree you grow
Your ivy walls can’t keep me in
I am a heart that’s hard to pin
You turn to roots a tree you grow
Your ivy walls can’t keep me in
I am a heart that’s hard to pin
