Today had been fairly tiring for me for the first part. It had started the usual way, with breakfast as a family. It is usually the only time of the day me and my parents actually share with each other since they work quite long hours. Even if they didn't I doubt it would change much. Those two believe that independence is the key to becoming a good fighter. I have known that for a long time. Relying on parents all the time is definitely not allowed in the Mercer family. Breakfast had been the usual meal. Nothing special whatsoever. Then I went up to my room in order to change into my outfit for the day. Because of my planned activities my choice was more casual than usual. I had chosen a dark blue pair of jeans with a black polo shirt. I put a black, hooded jumper over this due to the weather starting to grow colder in preparation for the coming of winter. The last addition to my outfit was a pair of black trainers. A quick fix of my hair and I was ready to face the day. I went down into the kitchen to have a little chat with my parents. It seemed they had their own plans for the day just like I did mine. The conversation doesn't last that long, especially with my lack of words taken into account. Words aren't really needed that much here of course. I know what they expect of me without me asking them. I alo do not even need to tell them where I will be today, they already know. It is not long before they bid their goodbyes and leave the house to enjoy the first day of the weekend. There was a minute of non movement in the house before my feet started to carry me towards the front door and out of the house. As soon as the door shut behind me I could smell the air of District 2.
As I started to walk down the street I realized it was definitely colder than yesterday had been and began to wonder whether or not I should return home for my jacket before traipsing through half of the district to get to where I was planning to go. My mind ruled in favor of braving the weather instead so I proceeded slowly, not meeting the eye of anyone who was wandering around. It wasn't long before I reached my destination. As I wandered into the training center I could see that I was most definitely not alone. As I removed my jumper I couldn't help but notice that there were quite a few hopeful careers that were squeezing as much training out of their weekend as was possible. This used to be why I came to the center but now it is different. I train because the time might come where I have to go into the games whether my name is picked or it is the name of somebody I badly want to protect. If it happens I want to be strong enough to come back to those that I love. I saw someone standing near the mats where hand to hand combat is taught and asked if they wanted to practice. The boy was in agreement and the match began. He was a fairly tough opponent but it didn't quite present as much of a challenge as when I have had to fight with Gaston in the past. After a few minutes I managed to beat him and walked away from the mats. Another potential career had seen this and decided to challenge me so I fought against her next. I took on different people at the same station and by the end I was fairly tired and decided to pack it in for the day. Putting my jumper back on I headed out of the training center and back into the district.
Catching sight of a clock I saw that a good portion of the day had passed by while I had been busy training. It was definitely time for me to grab something to eat. Hand to hand combat wasn't exactly easy work after all. I went towards the center of the district since I would have to pass through there to get back to my home. It seemed to be more packed than usual due to the reaping drawing closer and closer. This one had disappointed many hopeful careers who were now told that they were not eligible for what would have been their last reaping. Personally I was glad about this quell twist. It meant, even just for one reaping, that the entire host club were safe. The youngest members were 15 so none of them had anything to worry about for quite some time. This thought stayed on my mind while I wandered around, observing those that passed by to see if any of my friends were around at this time of day. I didn't really know what many of them did with their weekends apart from Gaston and that was only because of him being my cousin. As I swerved my head slightly I caught sight of the newest member of the host club and the only female member. Well, the members are the only ones who know she is a female. Everybody who visits the club thinks she is a boy. I figured it would at least be polite of me to go and say hello to her. We hadn't really spent any time with each other without the rest of the club so it was a chance to get to know more about the girl. I couldn't tell what she was doing from that distance so I walked towards her until I was not far behind. My hand reached out to gently touch her shoulder in an attempt to capture her attention and make it so she noticed that I was there. I hoped the action wouldn't startle her too much.
