She stood in the loft, waiting for whoever it was that wanted to talk to her and suddenly, Lynette came up. She looked at Miyuki before she fell to the ground. Miyuki panicked for a moments before realizing that Lynette was going into labour. Oh, crap, thank goodness I've done this before she thought, rushing to Lynette's side. She held her finger to her lips, a gesture to be quiet and moved into position. I need you to push She signed, hoping that the other girl understood sign language. I don't know what I'm actually doing loll. She waited for the other girl to start pushing and helped as the baby was born. It was covered in blood and Miyuki knew that this part was the most dangerous. She had to cut the umbellicle chord or else the child would die She searched for something to cut it with and came upon something that wasn't ideal but she supposed it would work. This is going to hurt, I'm sorry She said, cutting the chord and thwacking the baby on the back. It started to cry and Miyuki felt a swell of adoration for this baby that wasn't even hers. She found some rags and wrapped the bundle in them before handing the baby to her mother.

After a little while, once the baby had settled down, Miyuki looked at Lynette. So what did you want to talk about? she signed, smiling at the little baby girl. Moonlight shone through the skylight of the loft and illuminated the area around them. The ground was covered in blood and Miyuki knew she ought to clean it up. She found some more rags and began to mop up the drying blood. The little baby was quiet as she worked.

She looked at the girl as she processed what she'd signed. I want to kill our owner Miyuki had thought of possibly killing someone and making them pay but had never actually had the nerve to sign anything about it, she'd get in huge trouble just reading it. She thought for a few minutes, looking at the sleeping baby with a softness that surprised her. I never thought I'd say this, but I think you're right. She deserves her freedom. she signed, sitting down. She was tired, not having slept since the day before. Last night she'd been instructed to clean the house from top to bottom, an unfair punishment in her opinion for eating while working. She'd been hungry, what was she supposed to do, starve? Certainly not. She'd eaten a little bit of the food she'd been serving and one of the little brats belonging to her owner had snitched on her, earning her the task of cleaning the house from top to bottom. She yawned, revealing her tongueless mouth and covered it with her hand. She always felt self-conscious whenever she yawned because of the fact that the capitol had taken away something she should have had. I should be free, not a slave to some rich Capitol snob she thought, not daring to sign the thoughts. If the two of them were caught up here, they'd be killed and most likely, Lynette's child would be killed too.

Miyuki sat in the dark loft with Lynette, listening to the baby sleeping soundly in her mothers arms. She had never had any children, she'd been 16 when she'd been avoxed, and her sister Attia hadn't had any kids. The only reason she'd known what to do when Lynette had given birth was because the wife of her previous master had given birth in the home and she'd helped deliver the baby. She smiled at the memory and felt a pang of longing for the days when her master had cared about her and she wished that she were there again. She hated it here, where the master never cared, his children treated her like shit, and his wife was constantly nagging her. She felt anger bubble up inside her and finally allowed it to speak through sign language. I hate them, and I totally agree with you. We should kill our owner, make him pay for what he's done she was so angry she couldn't even think. Suddenly, she heard a pair of footsteps coming running down the hall from the door and she froze. Shit, we're gonna be caught she thought, looking at the other girl, the panic clear in her eyes. She hated the Capitol but she wanted to live, and live a good life. Being tortured and killed would not be a good way to go. We need to catch whoever that was she signed, standing and darting to the door. She opened it silently and peered out, the hallway was empty, whoever had been watching was gone. She felt fear prickle over her skin as she looked back at the other girl. What are we gonna do? she signed, looking around the room.

She peared out the door and saw the figure of one of the other Avoxes. She darted down the hallway and caught up to the Avox to see that it was a young man. She took his ear and dragged him back to the loft. He didn't resist, for which she was grateful and when she let him go, he looked up at her with admiration in his eyes. What are you doing here? she signed. He looked at her before signing back. I heard the two of you come up here and I was curious. He signed. She sighed in relief I think Avoxes can sigh and looked at the other girl. I think we should trust him, he's an avox too so he's more than likely not gonna rat us out she signed to the other girl. She trusted Lynette and didn't want to see her hurt, especially now that she had the baby. I think we should kill our master, the only thing is when and how would we do it she signed. She knew that the masters children wouldn't understand them so she felt freer to sign what she wanted.
