The truth is that love actually is all around.

There are many labs, and many studies, which constantly work to modify or improve the human experience. Of course, most of their research gets shipped out to the Capitol. But if you're lucky enough, or successful enough, sometimes research is done quietly, just for the thrill of it. One lab, Saxon Discoveries, is a family-owned business that has outpaced its competition in the last three years. While it is primarily a biotech lab, the CEO, Curtis Saxon, has allowed the opening of several "hobby labs." Curtis created one especially for his son, Harry Saxon, to run, and didn't once ask if Harry had any interest in doing so.

The love lab's primarily focus for the first year is qualitative research. After an exhaustive study of possible field areas, the district center's school was chosen for its affluent, intelligent student body, who would no doubt have time to give interviews upon request. Of course, the researchers also had some bias towards this particular school, as they also matriculated or graduated from it.

The studies have begun. And already they are discovering that love comes in many, many forms...

I simply used the same ones from the movie so we would all immediately recognize them. FCs are up to you, and I'm even somewhat flexible on ages, provided that the sibling relationships still make sense. I tried to age everyone down to the point where they would be reapable because like, helloooo why else are we here?.

Billy Mack // 18 // An ex-morphling addict with a wicked laugh, Billy is a performer. He has a rock band which likes to think of itself as avant-garde but really plays the same crap as everyone else, and a voice that grows more and more gravelly every day. He's old before his time, done in by drugs before he was even of reapable age. If it hadn't been for Joe pushing him to stay on track, he would've died in a ditch long ago. Now it's a balancing act between staying the course as the tail-chasing rock star, and admitting his feelings for the only person who's always been there for him.

Joe // 17 // A good kid with a growing waistline, Joe is more kind than he is smart, and patient beyond reason. He has a good head for business and is already interning at one of the distribution plants in the district. But his passion is music. He is a snob, an aficionado, and his indulgence in Billy's drek is testimony to his true and abiding love for his best friend. He's never done drugs, doesn't drink, but his hair is already starting to thin after constant tugging on it over Billy's antics. Lately he has been confiding in Sarah.

Juliet

[/b] // 17 // A frail beauty, Juliet has a sweet tooth and a sweet smile. She's grown up as the forgotten middle of many siblings until a boy made her stand out. Peter, with his smooth skin and kind eyes, helped her to open up. They've been together for over a year, and he secretly has already asked her to marry him. She simply couldn't be happier. When Juliet found out about the love lab, she signed up to help immediately as an intern.

Peter[/b] // 18 // An easygoing chap with a deep love of sport, Peter doesn't exactly fit into Six's mold. He'd been head of the class elsewhere, but as it stands he finds more intelligence in the sweep of his right foot than in his head. He doesn't let that stop him, though. With an epic best friend and the girl of his dreams, he riding on top of the world. Of course, he has no idea that one little secret could be his undoing...

Mark[/b] // 17 // Mark is actually almost two full years younger than Peter, having skipped two grades, one when he was 8 and one when he was 11. Being the bigheaded, younger boy in the class did not bode well for him, but Peter took him under his wing. Mark has been eternally grateful ever since. He is blazing smart, feverish with it and has difficulty relating to most people. He watched Juliet from afar long before Peter noticed her, and almost burned up with his love for her. He doesn't know about their engagement, but there's nothing that would make him hurt Peter like that. Well, maybe almost nothing. He sometimes dates Mia to take his mind off things. Mark also signed up to be an intern at the love lab, but after discovering that Juliet wanted the position, rescinded his application.

Jaime[/b] // 16 // Jaime is a writer at heart, and awkward in all imaginable ways. He sings to himself in the hallways, stutters through most conversations, and throws himself at unsuspecting people, breaking up the normal cliques at school. It isn't that he wants to cause strife, but that he genuinely wants to know his classmates. Of course he comes off as sort of a buffoon, so he doesn't have many friends, until Aurelia is assigned to shadow him. He instantly takes a liking to her, but for the first time in his life he can't find the right words to say. He is the younger brother of Daniel, although the two have never been particularly close.

Aurelia[/b] // 15 // Born on the outskirts of District Six, Aurelia's family has always been very poor. She wasn't challenged like many of her new found classmates, and is well behind in her classes. She is diligent, studies hard, but none of that seems to make a difference to anyone, because she is mute. A genetic defect from her birth, Aurelia has never formed a speakable word. But her head is fully of things to say, if someone would just give her the opportunity to communicate them.

Harry Saxon[/b] // 18 // Harry graduated a year early from the District Center School, like a dozen or so of his classmates. He is smart, a reasonable manager with no ambitions whatsoever. When his father turned over control of the newly created love labs to him, he figured it was a punishment for not doing much since graduation. He spends most of his free time with his girlfriend of four years, Karen, but with all the new interns, Harry's feeling the first flush of power. He's slowly developing a wandering eye, and it's wandering right over red hot Mia. When not drooling over, he does a fairly good job of mentoring Juliet, Karl and Sarah.

Karen[/b] // 17 // Karen has known Harry her whole life, and has always known that she would end up with him. A no-fuss girl, she has no idea what the word "fashion" even means but that hasn't stopped her from finding ways to be useful. From running the backstage of all school productions to being on student council, Karen is very involved in extracurriculars and does just fine at school. It's strange to be in her senior year without Harry around, but she knows that his work at the love lab is building a solid foundation for their future marriage and children, even though they've never actually discussed either thing. She is also the younger sister of David, having skipped a grade when she was very young to be in the same year as her brother.

Mia[/b] // 17 // Mia is hot in a that intimidating, don't you fuck with me, kind of way. She wears stilettos, styles her hair to within an inch of her life, and steals venom-enhanced lipstick to puff up her lips. She's cunning, brilliant enough to act dumb and goal-oriented. She's starting to realize that when she graduates, she's going to need something to occupy her time, other than spreading gossip and trying to ruin the lives of the popular clique. She's set her mark on Harry, for now, but that could change and she sometimes has fun messing with stoic Mark's head for a night.

David[/b] // 18 // Class President and with only good things in his future, David is a powerhouse. He is friendly, disparaging, charismatic and filled with the notion that hard work makes you a better person. He has his hands full senior year, what with all the clubs and honor societies he's in, otherwise he would have been a perfect candidate to run the love lab. Instead, he settling into his student council duties, and finding that the secretary, Natalie, and her foul mouth has a way of confusing him that he rather adores. He is also the older brother of Karen.

Natalie[/b] // 16 // Curvy and prone to using colorful language, Natalie wasn't the obvious choice for the secretary of the student council. She won based on her honesty and tenacity after a very public breakup with her boyfriend, during which she called him out for his bullying. From there forward, Natalie has been something of a school celebrity. Not popular, per se, but admired. She takes her job on student council very seriously, diligently taking notes and helping to support the others in any capacity she can. From the first day she's had a secret crush on David, but believes he is way out of her league.

Daniel[/b] // 18 // Another early graduate in the same class as Harry, Daniel ended his education early out of necessity. In the brief, bright summer after graduation, his girlfriend and first love died of cancer. After her death, Daniel convinced his parents to take in her younger brother, Sam, as he had become something of a father-brother to the tween. Grieving but with responsibility, Daniel has found off jobs to keep him pre-occupied while he considers what life will be like, forever, without the girl he loved. He is the older biological brother of Jaime, although they have never gotten along well.

Sam[/b] // 12 // A runt of a twelve year old, Sam has just gotten old enough to be reaped... and lost his older system to something far more sinister. Despite her recent death, he's overcome with a more powerful emotion: love. Sam wakes every morning thinking of Joanna, who is from the far side of Six originally, and is desperate for every moment he can find with her. Someday he'll figure out a way to impress her. Until then, he's adjusting to life with Daniel's family after his deadbeat parents gave up on him and his sister, and breathing for the few seconds he sees Joanna every day.

Joanna[/b] // 13 // A powerhouse vocalist with a stable family, Joanna is the only child of two successful medical merchants. As a child she traveled all over the district, and has only recently settled in the city center. She takes her singing almost as seriously as her calculus, and is already very ambitious. She's in the cool kids for her sunny laugh and tales of what it's like on the outer edges of the district, but she doesn't need to be cool. She just needs her voice.

Sarah[/b] // 18 // A responsible girl who was dealt a rough hand of cards in life, Sarah is one of the lead interns at the love lab. She is diligent, friendly without being close, and girl-next-door pretty. Her parents are both morphling addicts and her older brother is mentally impaired. She takes care of him to the best of her abilities, forgoing parties, and working in the lab for a little extra cash for the medicines he so desperately needs. Recently she has started to become close friends with Joe, someone with whom she had share her burdens.

Karl[/b] // 18 // A handsome engineer, Karl wears glasses most of the time to help with his eyesight. This has the added benefit of disguising some of his genetic anomaly good looks. He is a designed at heart, an engineer with a penchant for numbers. He loves symmetry more than food, and will forgo showering while on a mental buzz. He was an easy acceptance at the lab and has designed many of the experiments and interviews. He always says goodnight to Sarah when he leaves for the day, although he hardly knows what to make of girls.

Tony[/b] // 16 // Horndog extraordinaire, Tony blames his constant strikeouts with girls on a myriad of other things. The weather. Who just died in the Games. The flu. Anything rather than admitting to himself that he just doesn't have game. But he'll try with anything that wears a skirt. Lately he's been especially fond of Mia, but it wasn't long ago that he was after Natalie.

John[/b] // 18 // A sweet guy with sad eyes, John is a messenger for the seedy side of Six. He is known for his tight lips and loyalty as he matches up pimps and prostitutes, although never partaking for himself. He was born in the slums and lived in a community home until the age of 18, and by then he'd amassed enough funds to rent out his own apartment until graduation. Then, he swears he'll get a real job. But now that he's found Judy, a call girl and sometimes stand-in for the prostitutes, he's not sure he wants to get too far away from the slums.

Judy[/b] // 17 // A classic beauty, Judy has the sweetest disposition. She was born to a middle-income pair of pharmacists who have tried to shelter her from the worst in the district. And it wasn't that Judy went looking for the slum, but one of her many volunteer jobs took her down some dark allies to try to help addicts, and she found herself instantly employable. The calls are fun, detached but fun, and sometimes when she goes to pick up her paychecks, she shows a little leg to entice a john. Nothing more serious than that, until she met the John. Now she can't stop thinking about him, and wondering: what was he doing in the slums?
