They don’t know any better. It’s not like they were told this wasn’t normal. Sure people can guess what’s going on but they all seemed pretty normal if you didn’t count the fact how antisocial the whole group seemed to be. Rose and Tiberius weren’t raised this way but they were brought up around similar ideas. Having missing their calling with the Games, they’ve chosen to dedicate their lives to raising a crop of future victors at any cost. Their formula is simple; raise careers, train them believing the Games is their only future, let them trust no one let alone each other, and make them do anything they can to please the Capitol. This translated into propaganda films telling the Shore children how wonderful it would be to participate in the Games and hand out the punishments not intended for their District but any tribute from One would be considered a hero.

the eldest shore, emerald was the golden child straight from the start. equipped with both knowledge and skill, emmy was the one to watch. she was brave, she was strong, and she was fierce. she was a warrior clad in golden armor, and instead of dreaming for a prince to save her, she spent her childhood dreaming for a dragon to swoop down and face her. however, during the 63rd annual hunger games, emmy's thick armor cracked. and, at the end of it all, the girl who was destined for greatness, perished while living out her childhood dream.

adopted at a young age, lapis has always been a spitfire and reckless young woman. not only independent in her actions, she is brazen and strong. capable enough as a career, yet seemingly unaffected by the parent's attempt at brainwashing their children. lapis likes to spend her moments being free and wild, because true careers cannot be tamed.

angry. if there was one single word to describe pyrite shore, it would be angry. the poor dear isn't even too certain as to why she is so furious, but she is. she knows she's talented, so it's not because she thinks she's weak. she knows she's pretty enough, so it's nothing caused by vanity. she may not be all that smart, but who needs brains when you live in a family like the shores? maybe she's angry at perfection. maybe she's angry at being someone so ideal but not truly feeling like it. if emerald was a knight in shining armor, pyrite is sure as hell the dragon.

phena is beautiful, rich and popular - and she sure as hell knows it, making sure everyone else does, too. spoied and selfish, she's blinded by her own arrogance and is convinced she is perfectly fit for the games, opting not to train every day along with her other siblings. making the most of the family wealth, phena ventures to rise to the throne of both socialite and hunger games victor all at once.

arguably one of the most cunning of the shores, petalite's strategy is one of deceit. she pretends to be weak to fool her fellow citizens, playing mind games to gain an advantage. she laughs at the inability of others to see past her disguises and looks down upon the adopted shores that she feels are unfit to share her last name. but, behind the seemingly crystal-clear wall of a perfect shore girl, lies a girl struggling to find herself both away from her triplet sisters and the expectations of every single shore child - to be the best or die trying.

originally from district eight, ave found a new life after being kidnapped by a sex-slave-trader and shipped off to district one. however, before she was landed into a prostitution house, the peacekeepers of one caught on and brought the man into custody. ave, along with a few other girls, was dropped off into a community home. she was adopted by mr. and mrs. shore soon after, and she was a shy and scared girl among a sea of warriors. ave tried to find a place in the massive group of siblings, but after being assaulted one night and then taunted by her brother, beryl, ave's fragile shell cracked. she is now plagued by body dysmorhpic disorder and anorexia nervosa. ave is a suicidal star who longs to become nothing but a mere supernova in a galaxy of great beauties. though she is distant and slightly unsettling, you can always find a friend in her.

opal - the happy go-lucky shore with a green thumb. often found tending to her garden more often than training, opal sees the best in everyone and tries to stay out of conflict's way in the shore household (which can usually be stumbled upon around every corner). after being reaped for the 64th hunger games, her fate is unknown as of now - will she take the treasured title of victor every shore dreams of, or will she become just another embarrassment to the shores, eager to be forgotten the second she dies?

motherly in his own right, no one would guess that argonite could hold such a temper as he does. after all, he trains regularly, he watches the pro-capitol videos as desired, and he does his school work diligently. but, for some reason, this boy has a highly combustible soul inside his gun-powder shell. aside from those moments when he explodes, however, he's actually a rather nice guy. and, trust in this, his throwing knives are far better suited for training dummies than your flesh.

gentle and weak, niobium is more comfortable with a book clutched between her fingers than a blade. shunned by most of her siblings, nio is commonly seen as the weakest link, rarely taking the time to train. a particular target of witherite, she is skittish and shy due to the verbal and sometimes physical abuse she receives from her siblings. however, she never loses faith in the hope that she'll be able to be free someday. if witherite doesn't kill her first, that is.

just like many of the adopted shores, paris leans more towards the weird side. distant and quick to say confusing and puzzling things, paris is far more clever than she makes one think. she's not the type to use manipulation and mind games like petal, oh no. she's just a deadly fighter when it comes to verbal lashings. a compulsive liar, she'll say anything to better herself, or just for the heck of it. she's not very strong, but her words and riddles can easily bring a foe down to her level.

he may not be very strong or perfectly agile with a weapon in his hands, but when it comes to brains, there is no shore more cunning than beryl shore. with his quick wits and charming demeanor, beryl can easily win anyone over. still, his sweet words that sound like the softest of musical notes are nothing but his attempt at bettering his trade as a puppet-master. if he can't be a top career, he might as well be the smartest boy in district one, right? then again, beryl truly doesn't want to be a career. maybe, in all truth, he doesn't even want to be a upper-class citizen. after all, all the best bars are in the lower-section of the district.

life, to witherite, is a game. it's not just the hunger games that dominates his life - he is constantly thinking up cruel plots and sadistic twists to let loose on others. witherite gets a kick out of confrontation and an even bigger one from winning. the only thing better than emotional turmoil and mental pain is physical agony - and he's not afraid to wreck havoc on unsuspecting weaker victims. and, luckily for witherite, the shore family consists of quite a few weaklings, each an easy target. it may be years before he enters the games, so he might as well start training on flesh and bone instead of cloth and rubber.

feminine and bossy, morganite mixes well with his plentiful amount of sisters. he's not particularly strong, nor smart, but the sheer flamboyancy and attitude of this young man equals one proud and spoiled career. he is known to be rather snobbish and selfish, grouping well with aqua and phena, and he shuns both his adopted siblings and the lower class. sure, he may not be the number one shore, but he is a part of the number one family in district one. doesn't that count for enough?

some would say that aqua is the miniature version of phena, combined with a pretty face and an attitude that could make even the strongest of careers flee in terror. still, unlike the elder sister that aqua envies, she is responsible enough to train. well, if you can call it being responsible. aqua has a burning desire to prove that she isn't just some ripoff of phena, and that she's just as good as all of the other full-blooded shores. pure shore blood flows through her veins, and though she is quick to whine and is not easily pleased, aqua's sheer determination and fire makes her one feisty shore.

ettringite - or etta for short - is one of the youngest shores, but don't let her delicate features and quiet tone fool you. adopted into the shores at a young age, the girl is smart and wonderfully brave with a knack of exploring every possible option of the past, present and future. well, if you could call it a knack. etta doesn't like to talk about it much, but it seems that death lurks around every corner of her young life. she could swear the slide toppled over and crushed her on the playground, when in all reality it toppled over and missed her by a hair. but, of course, some things are better left unsaid. she may not be a very capable career, but when it comes to surviving, etta has quite the experience.
