As I walk through the woodlands of District Seven, inhaling all of the wonder of the winter season. I have a burly jacket on, one my mother was able to purchase from one of the better clothes salesmen. I think of all the wonderful things I own. We have a two story house, a hot shower, nice clothes, food. But... what about the poorer people of the district? What do they have? Nothi- I stop myself. They have each other and that's all that matters.
Those are some of the many tangents I get myself off on while walking in the woods. Suddenly I stop. There's smoke about half a mile away. Why is there smoke so deep in the woods? I look around for signs of human presence. There is none. I walk closer, now I am intrigued. Normally I don't get so curious about things, in fact, normally I get scared and turn and walk the other direction. As I get closer, I hear the sounds of axes on wood. I freeze. Axes and strangers are not a good combination in District 7.
I quickly scurry up a tree and look. It's too hard to make out from where I am. I scamper over to the next tree and peer down. Now I have a clearer view through the snow covered dead branches. It's a man. He seems to have moved on from his axe and started sanding. I lean closer to see what it is he's carving. It appears to be the outline of a chair or couch. Probably a couch because it's too big to be a chair. I reach for the branch in the next tree so I can get even closer, instinct and curiosity taking total control over me.
That's when I fall. I'm able to slow it just enough so that I don't die by grabbing hold of a branch, which bends then snaps. I land on the ground hard. For about a whole thirty seconds, or at least that's how long it felt, I'm in total fear and frustration as I cannot move, for the air has been knocked from my lungs. By the time I can breath I feel pain all over. It's overwhelming! I look around wildly and I see the man coming. But he's coming with someone else too.
