Gorse Mill-District 12 ( Fixed)

Gorse is short and well built. She only comes up to most of her friends’ shoulders but her own are heavy with muscles. Her arms and legs are similarly toned and this, combined with her very short hair, often makes people mistake her for a boy. Her hair is jet black, although she keeps it so short against her tanned skin that this is difficult to tell.

Gorse has a fine face and almond eyes which offset her heavy build. Her face is the only part of her that appears feminine and it is her light grey eyes which make people instinctively trust her. She has dimples when she smiles, which is quite a common occurrence and her lips are turned up so that even when she is upset she still appears happy.


Gorse wears a simple brown tunic like shirt and black cotton tights. If she cannot find a brown tunic then she wears a green one. They are often stained and dirty within a week of her first wearing them. Gorse is almost never clean and she is always covered in mud or blood from her work at the butchers.

People's first impression of Gorse is usually that she is aggressive and hostile however five minutes spent in her company soon rectifies that. Her solid build lends her an air of confidence that her personality lacks and without it she would appear quite shy. Gorse has trouble approaching people although no one ever seems to notice this. When she is comfortable with people, however, Gorse is incredibly bubbly and it is often difficult to get her to stop talking. People rarely find her annoying though and almost always enjoy her company.

Gorse gets frustrated with things very easily and this frustration often builds to a violent anger which she has been forced to learn to temper. Gorse is not the most patient of people and sometimes expects too much of others when they fail to complete a task to perfection. She is a trustworthy person and, although she is not the smartest of her friends she often has insights into situations and people which make her council very valuable. Her loyalty also makes Gorse a person that people want to befriend.

Gorse has no sense of fashion or style whatsoever, even for someone from district twelve. Her Mother has long since given up on attempting to get her to wear 'pretty' things as Gorse only discards them in favour of clothing that allows freedom of movement

Gorse gets along with boys just as well as she does with girls although they don't tend to seek her advice as often. She loves talking but when she is with her male friends she can become quieter. Gorse knows what to say (or what not to) to put people at ease but she also knows how to do the reverse and is not afraid to do so. Gorse is well respected by people that know her.

Gorse lives in a merchant family. Her Mother is a seamstress so Gorse has never really been short of food. They are not so rich however that Gorse has not had to take tesserae. She is the oldest child of four and in two years she will take up a full time apprenticeship at the butchers. Until then, she only works after school or on the few days that she can skive off.

Gorse's father is a blacksmith who makes the tools necassary for mining and he has taught her the many skills needed for his craft. It is a result of her training with her father and her work at the butchers that Gorse is so strong. It used to be expected that she would follow her father in his trade until she discovered that she was particularly handy with knives and was not repulsed by open carcasses.

Gorse is terrible at school. She has often been sent home for fighting or refusing to do the work set for her and she only attends so that she can spend time with her friends. She has never been outside the fence mostly because she has never needed to. Her family has always been fed and even her friends in the seam are not too badly off. her favorite place to be in District 12 is the meadow and she doesn't much like the crowded square.
