Appearance:
Ame is a average girl when it comes to height and weight. She is only about 5'3" and 110 lbs. When it comes to physical attributes, however, she is somewhat special. Ame has naturally brown hair, but due to her time in the sun, her hair has become an almost bleached blonde color at the ends. Her hair is not an ombre, more like slightly lighter tips, and is wavy due to the salt in the water. Also due to the sun, Ame's skin is tanned. However, some parts of her back and shoulders are sunburned, due to the fact that she refuses to wear sunscreen. Ever. But what really makes Ame unique are her eyes. Ame's eyes are a bright blue-green like the sea. They almost seem to glow when hit by the sun. And when Ame is angry, sad, or upset, her eyes turn to a stormy grey; as if a storm was brewing inside her eyes. When she cries, which is rare, it seems as if her eyes are literal storms that run into river and lakes. When Ame isn't in the water, which is rare, she is wearing a pair of jean shorts with small flower designs embroidered on them. Ame found them in the leftover piles of a shipment from another district. Ame also wears a plain white v-neck shirt with a torn and battered jacket, that she says was her father's. In the colder months, Ame wears jeans or any other pants she can find in her home. Underneath these clothing items, Ame wears a swimsuit. Ame only has one bikini; a simple black one that she doesn't go without. It's basically her underwear. Ame also only wears her hair in a ponytail. For nice occasions, she wears it down or braided.
Personality:
KIND
Ame has always been a kind and sweet girl. When she was young, she had an aquarium where she would put the half dead fish her father would catch. Ame would never turn down the chance to go into the poorer parts of her district and give out food to the homeless people scattered along the streets. When she got older, she would collect oyster and shells from the sea, and fish for food for the poor people. She would then give out the shells to the poor people, so maybe they could sell them to get some new clothes. Often times however, Ame sees them wearing shell necklaces with the shells she finds.DARING
Ever since Ame was little, she has lived near the sea. She learned to swim before she learned to walk, making her one of the fastest and best swimmers in her part of town. Due to her early understanding of swimming, her father would take her out on his fishing boats and swim with her in the water. Every weekend, her and her father would go out father from the shore, and deeper underwater. Soon, when she could run and walk without tripping, she would jump off the high rocks into the water. This is where she learned to dive and where she perfected it. She would hold diving competitions, and would always jump off the highest rock she could find. Once when she did this, she broke her left arm by jamming it into a rock as she dove. However, this was a minor setback and was in the water soon after.
PROTECTIVE
However, Ame has one big fatal flaw, like most people. Her flaw is the fact that she is very protective. Ame never lets anything happen to the people she cares about. If something does happen to them, she breaks down and cannot function. For example, when her father died, her family went through a whole month before Ame did anything. And even then, she refused help because she couldn't stand for people to work to support her. She can't let anyone close to her be hurt, or she will break apart inside.
History:
0-5
Mama said that on the day I was born, it was raining buckets. She said that the smell of rain invaded the old house we used to live in. I don't remember much of that house, except that it was always cold and drafty, and Father was always out. Mama and Father would always take me down by the water, where it always seemed warmer. One day, Father took me out into a shallow part of the water. I was barely a year old, but I remember that as soon as I touched the water I could swim. Mama said I swam like a fish. Father couldn't keep me out of the water. On my first birthday, Father and Mama took me out on a boat ride. Mama couldn't swim, but she watched and laughed at me splashing Father. We moved out of the old drafty house when I turned 2. Not much happened that year, except for me learning to swim and dive even deeper. When I was 3, Mama had my baby sister Tempesta. That was big event of that year. Years 4 and 5 consisted of me perfecting my swimming and learning how to fish. This was also when I started my aquarium for the half dead fish Father and I caught.6-10
Not much happened in this time period. However, when I was six, Tempesta and I started collecting shells. Mama bought Tempesta a shelf for all of her shells, which was a lot! We tried to count them once, but we stopped because we were called for dinner. When I was seven, I learned how to make necklaces and I used Tempesta's shells. She got really made at me, but when I told her she could make them too she was happy. Around the time when I turned 7, Mama refused to let Tempesta swim. To this day, none of us are sure why, but Tempesta really doesn't mind anymore I don't think. Years 8 and 9 consisted of fishing, diving for shells and underwater food, and swimming as far out as possible. One my 10th birthday, I broke my arm diving into the water. It was really painful, but I still swam and dove after it healed.
11-15
I was 11 when I came home from school but my father didn't. The next day, my family received news that there had been a storm where my father was fishing. The boat had wrecked, and somehow, Father had drowned. No one knows how or why, because he was one of the best swimmers. No one made it back from the wreck. Tempesta and I cried for days. Mama tried to get food, but she had never learned how to fish. We slowly became poorer, and I still couldn't get over the loss of my father. It was after I had turned twelve that I went back in the water. Slowly, I began to take Tempesta with me on fishing trips. It was a slow recovery; it's still happening. Years 11, 12, and 13 are a blur of hunger and loss. We sold all of Tempesta's shells, and we slowly but surely regained our status and health. At 14, I began my first job. I was a diver, and I collected oysters and clams from the ocean. However, as much as Tempesta wanted to help, I promised myself she would not ever get in the water. Tempesta begged and pleaded for a chance to swim, so I told her that on her 12th birthday, I would teach her. Now I am 15, and struggling to support my sister and my mother, thinking much less of myself. I wonder how we will make it through this winter. Every year we have had a miracle, but I don't see one coming this year.
