Name: Dekel Beau is his full name, but he is known as Deck to his close friends. His name literally means Beautiful Palm Tree, Dekel is Hebrew from Palm Tree and Beau is French for beautiful.
Age: He looks older than 15, many people expect him to be at least 17.
District: 7
Face Claim: Brandon Tyler Russell
Codeword: Odair
Appearance:
Dekel is known as a dainty boy working in a furniture hut his mother owns. Dekel is positive he is not one bit dainty, he knows it, he would rather be outside working in the woods with his father than at the small shop. They don't get much business anyways.
His eyes are slightly spaced far from each other, almost reaching his temples. They are a striking blue but occasionally turn a grey around winter times. His blue eyes are accessorized by his long eyelashes that he got from his father. Many women think his eyelashes are pretty. Dekel thinks they are just jealous of them, not attracted. His skin is a light caramel brown and scarred in random places on his body. The scars don't bother him they hold hidden memories.
Dekel's hair is a dark brown accented with natural light highlights. His hair refuses to stay flat and tends to puff in the air without fixing it. If he actually put a little time in his look, his hair would flatten. He hides his hair and part of his forehead under a grey wool cap his father picked up from a shop when Dekel was younger. The hat is soft, but tight, because of how old it was.
Lastly, Dekel is a skinny boy. He is at least 146 lbs. a little under weight for a fifteen year-old. His weight is distributed across his body because of his height. He is taller than the average kid at exactly 6'0. He is slightly strong from working in the furniture shop lifting heavy china cabinets and love seats. He doesn't exercise and is not exactly "athletic", but working in the shop 14 hours a week has kept it constant.
Personality:
Dekel is quiet with most people. If you don't know him, he likely will not talk to you. The only way for him to get to know you is if you talk to him, he rarely presents himself in front of people. Dekel hides his true self in the corner and let's the shyness take over him. He doesn't show his personality and tries his best not to.
In times of stress Dekel likes to paint. He got the set as a gift from his father, it cost him a weeks work. Dekel was happy that he was given this, it was the only real hobby he ever learned. His parents never had enough money to afford a lot. That's why he has been wearing the same clothes for the past two years. When Dekel paints, he doesn't stop. He kind of pours all his feelings out on to the scavenged paper he took from his school. He wants to keep this skill and use it for money when he gets older.
Dekel is loyal to his friends. When he becomes acquainted to someone he automatically becomes loyal and trustworthy. Many of his classmates think he can act a little fake at times, but that is Dekel's true personality. Dekel sometimes gets too loyal and trustworthy that people begin to think he is acting, this makes it hard for him to communicate with others.
He is not the brightest around the district. He didn't receive the best education as a child. Dekel had to learn most on his own and from school. He developed a lot slower than other kids. He didn't learn his ABC's until second grade.
Dekel is positive. He learned this from his mother in the darkest times. His mother always said everything was going to be okay and never wiped that smile off her face. She always stayed optimistic even when the future was already told. "Learn from the past, Live in the present, Plan for the future." is what his mother used to tell him. He follows this simple quote and it is what has gotten him through all his depressive stages.
History:
Dekel was born the year of the 50th Hunger Games. His parents were young and stupid, they didn't know what to do when they found out his mother was pregnant, they didn't believe it. Both nineteen they decided to get married on the spot to give the unborn child security and a better childhood, sadly this didn't help as much.
Dekel's parents bought an old house that was barely standing. The house had two rooms and a washroom, the rest was opened to each other. There was a rusty stove and a few cabinets to store food. The kitchen opened up to the living room which has a Television to screed the games, a patched-up couch and a rotten table set. All that was bought for Dekel was a wooden cradle and a teddy bear that smelt like rotten fish and pine trees. When Dekel was born his parents never had the time for him. They worked harsh hours and Dekel was left in the care of his grandmother who was in her early 40's. His grandmother was far worse from insane and couldn't take care of the child herself. Dekel never learned to walk or talk until he was four, on a day when his mother closed the shop early. Dekel developed slowly and when he started school at 5 he had more trouble than the other kids. But Dekel got on his feet again and started to work harder at school.
Fast Forward a few years, Dekel now eleven, he got a painting set from his father. The paint set was the only way Dekel can escape from the hard environment he was living in. In the early mornings and late afternoons Dekel would grab his brush and paint wonderful pictures on papers he stole from school. The paintings, he posted on his room wall, where he can look at them and forget about the outside world. Dekel sometimes painted the same thing, it was the same landscape, sometimes at different angles. It was a long grassy plain surrounded by purple mountains. In the center, a large oak tree was a canopy, a shield, for a dark shadow that hovered around it. Dekel didn't know what the vision was from or when he saw it. That simple landscape made him happy and forget about the troubles he was going through.
Dekel became ignorant at school hours. He believed if he was going to go work as a lumberjack or in the furniture store his mom owned he didn't need the education for it. Dekel dropped out from school to go work with his mother in the shop, at 14. He knew he didn't need the education, learning how to add and subtract was pointless if he was going to go work in the woods or at the shop.
This brings us to where we are now...Dekel Beau now 15 and living with his parents in the tiny house they have always had.
