Jay appears rough and rugged from the outside. His usually uncombed hair is long and a darker shade of dirty blonde. His eyes are a piercing amber color. His muscular build and height of 6'3 are fairly intimidating to others. His skin is a dark tan.
Jay's eyes are usually cold and hard, creating a barrier between his emotions and the world. His muscular build is the result of daily training, and is very prominent. His smile is wicked, daring anyone to step up and challenge him.
Personality:
Jay is seen by his classmates as rough and tough, winning fights often and training hard. He puts on a cold outer shell. He always has his gameface on and appears as though he is prepared for anything.
To Jay, winning is everything. 'If you don't win, then what is the point' is his general way of thinking. He is super competitive and won't let anything stand in his way. He might seem a bit temperamental to others, as fights are often drawn to him.
However, despite this outside protective shell, he can be sensitive. He has had one serious relationship with a girl in the past, and he cares quite a bit for his family. However, this sensitivity is often expressed differently than might be normal for others. He aims to please others he cares about. He tends to be awkward around his loved ones, though.
However, if he doesn't have a close relationship with a person, he feels nothing, and it takes a lot of time and effort to crack his shell. He is cold and can even seem heartless to those he doesn't truly care about. This is why none of his relationships in the past ever really lasted long.
History:
Jay was born to two District 1 parents, both previous victors. He has a little sister, Violet, who is currently 11. They always put Violet on display, telling her what to wear and what to say and who to hang out with. They would never even think about letting her volunteer for the games, since she is their little "princess".
Jay, however, was pushed at a very young age to train and to eventually volunteer for the games. He was competitive by nature, so the games to him were seen as the biggest, most difficult competition, and he was not planning on missing out. He often neglected schoolwork and social time to train and to become stronger.
However, Jay began to put that to the side when he began to date Valerie at 15. For some reason, she was able to crack his outer shell of protection and reach the sensitive side that rarely showed. He truly loved her, and for a long time, they were happy. However, when it began to interfere with his training, his parents began to push him away from Valarie, eventually forcing them to break up. Not knowing that his parents had actually caused the end of their relationship, he controlled his pain by training even harder. His protective shell grew harder, and it became even more difficult to reach him. He pushed himself to the brink with training, and he plans to volunteer now that he is 18.
