Jericho Caleb

I can feel in the evening air all the words I want to say
Jericho knows that the Reaping is coming soon and it’s always an interesting time for him. On one hand he sees that he is nervous and scared that he could potentially go into the Arena. To face unknown dangers controlled by those who get paid to ensure the death of twenty three children year after year. Yet on the other he thinks of Mace and how he acted during his own Reaping. The man who appeared tough and ready to face the challenges ahead as he coerced his brother into ceasing his tears as he projected the image of the perfect tribute, strong and beautiful. And that he could imitates those features if he himself is ever forced into the Arena, at least Jericho hopes he can.
He ponders the differences of him and the god like Mace on the dusk lit road. The clouds are turning into different and blending swirls of pink, orange and purple as the sun sinks lower and lower into the horizon. It’s Jer’s favorite time of day to be outside, working all day on the ranch just to stop and stare at the wonderful canvas that the sky never ceases to create. It’s dreamlike to him, how the sky becomes art in such little time, time after time again.
The Town Square is quiet tonight, usually there’s chatter all around. But tonight there was only wind rustling the trees. It’s almost eerie, the absence of voices dancing in the air. He is looking around the Square, bereft of the citizen’s usual presence. He isn’t paying attention when he bumps into the stranger walking opposite him. “I’m so sorry I didn’t see you,” and he looks up. There he is, the man that changed everything for Jericho. Mace Emberstatt in the flesh, and he just ran right into him.
“Oh… uh… I am so, so sorry I wasn’t paying attention and I didn’t see you and oh my Ripred hi” Jericho stammered on, blushing like a babbling idiot.
In these arms that just let you go; on these lips that said your name
