Appearance: Maya has mid-length down her back light brown/blonde hair that has a left hand side parting. She has oval shaped brown eyes that are quite wide and deep set. Full pink lips that when she smiles shows her front two top teeth which are white but not bright white. She has slightly tanned skin. She has a slim build and is short at 5ft 3inches. She weighs 40Kg, meaning she is slightly underweight and you can see a lot of her ribcage from how skinny she is. She has very long legs and a short body.
She thinks that she is plain in comparison to her other classmates as she doesn't feel exactly pretty. She has a scar on her arm that is from her wrist to her elbow from cutting her arm on a fence when she fell over at school into the school fence. She has a tendency to dance and has good balance and has good stamina and can run 12 miles in 2 and a half hours - above average - without getting a stitch. although she has good stamina, she has very little upper body strength as dance and running do not require this. She has a poor, tattered clothing as she receives hand-me-downs from her mother as there are so many people in her family.
Personality: Maya is a shy girl that is not trusting of others as she is scared she will get hurt by them. She is fearful of being backstabbed and tried to keep herself isolated from others. She has a sunny disposition when working after school as she knows that the nicer her manner the more people will buy from them and the more money she can take home. She is very protective - even overprotective of her siblings- but also feels the same way about her friends. She is a caring girl who, when she finds out that a friend is in trouble, will always try to help - although sometimes people just think she is being nosey.
She has a fear of small spaces and losing her family members which is why she is so overprotective of them. She is a talkative girl when she is with her friends and family and when in private of her home has a tendency to speak her mind about the Capitol who she hates for leaving a family of seven in a one roomed house. History: Maya lives with her mum and dad who work alternate shifts in the electrical product industry - her mum the day and her dad the night shifts. She is the oldest of five children. She has two sisters called Daisy (aged 9), Jessie (aged 12) and two brothers called Alex (aged 12 - twin to Jessie) and Matt (aged 7). She goes to school during the day and then, along with Alex and Jessie, helps to run a market stall that their aunt runs selling fruit and vegetables.
her mother's family were born merchants selling fruit and vegetables but maya's mother, after the lose of her grandma couldn't cope with living in the main town, thus she married a poorer man from further out of the town. Before Maya was born her great-grandma was shot dead by a peacekeeper at a reaping for attempting to run off before it had started. Maya is now concerned for her younger siblings being reaped and attending the reaping. Their aunt is their mum's sister and their grandparents are all dead, most dying from starvation and hypothermia.
When she was 11 she stole an apple from her aunt's stall on her way to school, due to the lack of food in the house at the time because there was a shortage and they couldn't afford to buy food. She was caught and put in the stocks for five hours before allowed back home. She has since never commited any felony.
