It's a usual day. Nothing is different and everything is the same. I wake as eerily as any day and shower until my skin feel fresh. I look in the mirror as make sure I'm ready to go. A quick shave and a wash of the face leaves me looking as sharp I need to. My house is quite large and when I walk down the stairs I take in the atmosphere of an empty morning. Nobody else seems to be awake, which is typical. It's only six o'clock in the morning and I can hear how lively the birds are today. The TV is probably the most expensive thing in the house though, despite how wealthy my parents are. I put the radio on in the kitchen at a low volume that hovers lightly as not to disturb my sister or my parents who are fast asleep by the sounds of things.
Today is my day off but I need to gather some supplies for my twin cousin's birthday party. But an eighteenth party in the Orca family is no ordinary party. Suits, ties and all sorts of smart outfits are worn and the host books the hall down the road for the actual party to take place in. It usually starts with an opening speech and a quick celebration of the person's birthday but because it is Alex and Tyren, it will likely be much more of an event since it's both of them. The next part would be the dance. It's usually to a waltz played by a piano quintet in the background and everyone partners up. After that, more casual songs play that are more popular. Then the more party-like atmosphere starts with proper music and drinks. Not like I can predict it all though, anything could happen at an Orca party.
I put on my black jacket which I think is quite smart in comparison to most peoples casual outfit. I usually wear dress pants and a jumper like I am today. I like to look like I know what I'm taking about because I hate it when people don't believe me. First impressions, and all that.
I leave my house and the cold air soothes me. The contrast shows just how effective the heating is in our house. I brush a hand through my hair. Looking down the end of the road I let my feet take me through the snow, digging up a holding where I can. Slipping isn't an option. If I slip, I'm going home - screw the supplies. Being it this early, only one shop will be open and that'd be the general supplies shop. We put in our order months ago and they didn't have it ready until this week, the week of the party. I walk to the door of the shop and see it says 'Closed'. I roll my eyes, which makes me unaware that the owner is inside beckoning me in because he was told I'd be coming. I nod at him, but the irritation is clear on my face. "Do you have the supplies then?" I ask him with a bit of impatience, slipping my hands in my jacket pockets because his shop is barely even heated. "Yes, yes! One second. I go out back and get." His speaking skills are appalling, but I won't bring it up, he's probably had enough of that.
He returns with two crates stacked on top of each other and I can tell I look a bit puzzled. I knew we ordered a lot, but I didn't think you could fill two crates full of cutlery and cups. How many people have Frank and Cecilia invited? That's my uncle and auntie, going of the top like always. I think they're richer than my parents but I don't actually know nor care. "You've got something to carry these with, right?" I ask him. "Ah, yes!" His enthusiasm is a plague at this hour. Again, he comes back out with a wheelbarrow. My eyes are reluctant to identify this with what I'm supposed to take the crates with but he's already packing them onto it. I sigh. "Alright, thanks..." I turn the cart and take it out the door. He's already been paid, hence his excitement to get rid of the stock. This is going to be a nightmare to get back.
I continue up the road, but it is quite a distance and it is uphill. Hopefully, I don't slip now.
