I hear the voices when I walk through the district. She's so beautiful.
Poor fragile baby, locked up in the basement, being left there all alone.
I pay them no mind because- well, I know I'm pretty, don't I? Not that that is what matters to me. Appearance I can take or leave. Traditional "beauty" has always come naturally to me.

My hair is long, and blonde, and it grows really fast. Part of it is natural and part is because my mom gives me these special hair-growing-vitamins. I don't think they're entirely legal, but hey, she's a peacekeeper, so I guess it's technically okay? And my mom- she makes me grow out my hair, right, and take loads of these vitamins- and then like a couple times a year she cuts it all off and, I don't know, sells it, I think? It's weird. It's really weird, actually, and kind of really creepy, but I didn't think it was anything until I started leaving. I used to just assume everyone's moms did that.

When I was young, I loved my mother.
She loved me too, I think. I don't know for sure. I don't know if anything she's ever told me was true.
It could've been. But it probably wasn't.
Here's the thing: I grew up in a basement.
Take a minute. Take that in. Yeah, a honest-to-Ripred basement, I'm serious here. I didn't know what a tree was until I was eight. She told me outside was dangerous and that I was allergic to the atmosphere or something. I believed her, too. I can't imagine why now.

Going back a little further: she's not technically my mother. Well, not birth mother, anyway. And I didn't learn all this til last year, and I still don't know details, and-well. Here goes.
I was the only daughter of a pretty wealthy family, right? Okay. And then, when I was an infant- my mom kidnapped me. Like, honestly kidnapped me. Stole me right out of my cradle, from what I know. I don't know who my family is, exactly. I just know that they're not my mother. And so-she kidnapped me, yeah? And then she raised me. In a basement. That's about it. Kinda screwed up, isn't it, actually?
