Say something I'm giving up on you I'll be the one If you want me to Anywhere I would have followed you Say something I'm giving up on you | His eyes scanned the horizon, the sun setting on the district as the last shimmers of light glistened from the fading snow all around. Winter had come and gone, and the people of District Two were going back to their usual affairs that may have been tarnished due to the cold in the recent months. Ashton stood atop of a cliff that lay in the outskirts of the district. In the distance, you could see the various people as they close their shops, getting ready to return home to their families. Ashton didn’t have a family. Well, he did, but he wouldn’t soon. After a long, hard, internal debate, Ashton thought it was in his best interest to join the peacekeepers. After a few hard handful of weeks of training, Ashton would pack his bags and leave District Two. Forever. Ashton let out a sigh. He has yet to tell anyone, and he feared they would not take it well. His mind lingered on, though he had already sorted out the kinks of his peacekeeper status. His only fear was being sent to one of the lower districts. I mean, sure, it had good pay, but he would be stuck living in the slobs of some unwanted districts. Maybe if he was lucky, he would be relocated to the Capitol. Maybe. It was peaceful on the cliff. Recently, it was where Ashton went when he wanted some alone time to think. The leaves bristled past him, the coyotes howled off in the distance, and most importantly, his father wasn’t here to scold him on what he did wrong. Becoming a peacekeeper would actually be rather easy for Ashton, or so he thought. His career training would certainly pay off, and he would be able to graduate from the academy rather quickly if he played his cards right. “Kyanite,” he breathed aloud. He could already hear her approaching him. Her steps were light and delicate, and Ashton felt his heart skip a few beats. It was eccentric. Exciting. Amazing. He missed her, that much was clear. Even if that may have been so, he didn’t need to say anything else. They understood each other more than they realized, or at least Ashton seemed to think that. I love you, but I’m leaving you. Two things Kyanite didn’t know, wrapped up into one sentence that he so desperately wanted to blurt out. It was a shame she didn't love him back. “It’s been awhile.” |
