If you told me ten years ago that life was easy and beautiful, I would have believed you without hesitation. Not anymore.

It is no longer possible for me to deny the hardships of this life. You're likely thinking that I have it easy. I have only two words to say to that; fuck you.

I feel different from most of my family. Something so simple like my brown eyes make me feel like I don't belong. And that's only the beginning.

The main reason I don't belong is my personality. Yeah, I do have one, actually. I have a passion for things that don't result in people's deaths. It's not a common personality trait in my family, but I have it all the same. Don't get me wrong, I do participate in training and all but I am interested in other things beside our family traditions.

My interests? Training is fun at times. I like artsy things like fashion and the likes. I use makeup, my hair and clothes to shout "VALOR". Because I am - or try to be - brave in every aspect. Wouldn't want my name to go to waste.

I'm part of the Aubergine family weather I like it or not. My blonde locks and fair skin do hint at my origin. I wish I had blue eyes like the rest. My eyes - which I call "just brown" set me apart much too much. I also wish I had a personality to match the Aubergines. I'm only here because I'm brave.

I am I really?

I flash back to when I was seven.
Valor Cressida Aubergine had tears rolling down her rosy cheeks, gasps and wails passing through her small, pink lips. I had been crying for two hours, causing my eye lids to swell and lips to crack. I didn't want to become part of the labyrinth games. But I did it anyway.

When I was twelve, I ditched the popular girls at school because they were pressuring to do things I didn't want to do. They were annoying too. It was a risk, but I did it anyway.

I risked popularity and friendships. My crush - I'm sad to admit - was one of the people I had to ditch. We we're almost a thing too. The popular crowd still hates me, the feeling is mutual.

Skip ahead to when I was sixteen. I was popular but not with the popular crowd and popularity wasn't and isn't important anymore. I started suffering from night terrors and insomnia, stress caused it, I'm sure. I was scared to fall asleep and of being awake at night. Every night was and is hell to me and the day didn't give much relief. I still suffer from night terrors but it's improving. And I'm still here.

Those night terrors still give me chills when I think of them. I often dreamt about being in the games, the one and only Hunger Games.

My breathing can't keep up with my own legs. I'm going to fast, I can't stop. I trip over my own legs but soon recover. There is no time for anything else but running. Run run run run run run run.

I can't scream, I can hardly breathe. My life is on the line. This chase doesn't give me enough time to get tired but I know I will be affected after this. I dodge arrows as best as I can, I can feel a tip grazing my arm. Everything is blurred except for my goal.

Run run run run run run run

Don't stop. Just run run run run run.
