Arianna Pine
I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
And I, will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl
It was over my head
I know nothing at all
And I, will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl
Lying curled in a corner, the girls dark hair drapes over her face as her dark eyes turn red from tears that continue falling without cease. She can't stop crying, ever since her older brother was reaped, she'd been crying and she didn't know why. She didn't normally cry, crying was a weakness and she couldn't be seen as weak but what if being weak could be a good thing, at least right now? Clenching her delicate hands together in front of her knees, she ground her teeth together Stop crying but no matter how many times the words repeated themselves, she couldn't make the tears stop coming. She was alone, any chance she used to have at having family to take care of her was gone, stripped away after not one, not two, not three, but four of her family members were ripped away from her. First Cassius, then Beatrice and now both Hannah and Ares were gone from her life.
Sniffling, she tried again to stop the tears from flowing, she had to be strong, she had to remember who she was. She was Arianna Pine, younger sister of Ares Pine and a cousin to the well known Birch family of district two, she couldn't be seen as weepy and weak, she had to be seen as strong and unbrakable. Pulling herself up from her ball, she brushed off her clothes and pushed the hair away from her face to reveal the smooth skin of her cheeks and the almond shaped dark brown eyes. She left her corner, a new resolve in her mind. She would train as if her life depended on it and would do whatever it took to avenge her family members, make the Capitol pay for what they had done to her and to her family.
Now, Arianna knew that she wasn't by blood a Pine but that didn't matter, she'd been raised in the household as a Pine and she was proud to call herself one. When she'd been younger, she hadn't realized that she'd been adopted into the family, she'd just thought that she was special, Ares certainly treated her like a little sister, constantly bugging her but also extremely protective of her. She smiled as the memory danced in her mind, longing for the time when she would once more hear her brother call her when he got back from training or hear his voice echoing through the house. Perhaps he could win, although, she found it very unlikely no matter how good he thought he was, there was always someone that was better than him. She padded silently through her now deserted house, listening to the ghosts that were all she had left of her brother. She wandered into his room, seeing the bareness of the room and holding back tears as she quickly exited, not able to face the memories or the loneliness that stabbed at her heart.
As she wandered down the hallway, her hand ran along the wall, leaving streaks along their pale perfection. Her parents were out of the house at work, nothing different from the usual on their part but she felt something different, as if a piece of her had been taken away. (A piece had been taken away but it was to be determined as to whether it would be returned to her or not). She wiped away the remaining tears from her eyes and padded into her room, ready to return once again to the training she'd begun a few years before to become a peace keeper but she wasn't doing it because she loved the Capitol, in fact she hated them, she was doing it to gain access to their weaknesses and learn how she could take them down using their own weapons.
A small smile played across her lips as she looked through her closet, trying to find her training gear. She knew she couldn't afford to miss any more time at the academy, otherwise, she'd be kicked out and she couldn't let that happen, she had to become a peace keeper, she had to learn the Capitols weaknesses and take them down because this was wrong, what they were doing to the districts was wrong on so many levels she just couldn't contain the rage that built up in her when she thought of it. Over the years, she'd learned to control her anger, use it constructively towards becoming the best she could but every so often, she'd explode at her remaining brothers and when she exploded, she really exploded. Screaming and throwing things and just outright going crazy, at one point, she'd even broken an expensive table of her mothers and had had to find a job to replace it. Looking back now, she still couldn't believe she'd let herself unleash that much anger and it had definitely shocked her brothers. Who would have thought that a medium girl, not huge but not tiny, could have that much anger inside of her.
Pulling the fabric over her head, she looked at herself in the mirror. She didn't think she was pretty, not really pretty at least, like not drop dead gorgeous but she was average looking. She was medium built, her arms just average length and ending with nails that, if she had time, could be better taken care of while her legs were strong but her feet were horrendous. She had overly large feet that didn't match her body and she hated her toes, the nail beds were flat on her toes, making them ugly and disgusting. She sighed, slipping on socks and runners before pulling her dark curls into a bun and heading out of the house and into the late winter chill.
As she stalked up the steps to the training center, she was greeted by the head trainer who gave her an approving nod. "Good to see you back." He said, she nodded, determination in her dark eyes. "Good to be back, I'm ready to train again and I don't plan on taking any breaks from it." she said, looking into his eyes. He nodded before letting her into the building and she smiled, listening to the familiar sounds of training; swords clashing, heavy breathing, and thumping as bodies hit the ground. Putting her shoulders back and lifting her head, she walked into the room and headed towards her prefered weapon; the bow. She'd been training with a bow since she could lift one and had grown quite skilled.
"Good to see you back, Aria" A familiar voice said behind her and she turned to see her brother, Phyneas, grinning at her. She smirked, nodding. "I'm back and ready to train, even if Ares comes back I'll keep training." she said, her focus turning back to the targets she was shooting at. She notched an arrow and focused on the target, breathing in and taking aim before she fired, the arrow flying through the air with deadly accuracy and embedded itself into the center of the target. She turned to look at her brother but was disappointed to find he'd wandered off and was no longer watching. She sighed and put the bow down, scanning the academy for something she could do other than shooting. Perhaps it was time to try climbing, she'd never been very good at it, her fear of falling always kept her from trying. Taking a deep breath, she walked over to the climbing wall, motioning to the instructor that she would like to climb. He helped her gear up before walking her through the basics. She nodded before putting her hands on the wall and slowly beginning to climb. She searched for hand holds, trying to calm her rapidly beating heart as she slowly made her way up the wall. Come on, Aria, just a little further, you've got this. she told herself, trying to will herself to go on but a quick look at the ground made her feel dizzy. She was pretty high up she had to admit but she thought it was a mistake to look down. For a moment, she closed her eyes but didn't let go, taking a deep breath to calm her heart and clear her head. She had to reach the top, she had to for herself and to show that even though she'd been at home the last few days crying, she was done with crying and was ready to be strong again like she usually was.
Willing her hands to move, she climbed until her hands found the top of the climbing wall. She'd done it, she'd made it to the top without falling. She looked down at the ground to see her brother smiling up at her, mouthing good job and she pictured what Ares would think of her being up here. Would he be proud of her? Of course he would, she was usually deathly afraid of falling but she had conquered her fear. She had finally climbed something she didn't think she ever would. Now comes the fun part, getting down. She was not looking forward to that.
