He seemed no different from the restJust a healthy normal boyHis mama always did her bestAnd he was daddy's pride and joyNo one noticed the brother of the tribute. Maybe it was because he did not cry out, or even show the slightest twitch at the name of his brother. But if anyone looked close enough, they would notice similar features between the two. The dark blond hair swaying over his head, the exact same color of his brothers. The same nose, and facial structure as the tribute. The same tall frame that reaches over 6', and just as wide. He did not realize his brother's fate at that moment, but emotions never were his strong suit. The few who noticed may have thought that that was normal for a Pine, for their family was the strongest, and with two tributes down, there was no way to lose again.
While Ares eyes burned with hatred as he struck down the young man from 1, Phyneas watched with dark eyes. His strange outfit out of place in quiet room. His family sat around him, but he was too focussed on his brother's actions to notice. Phyneas was not sure what to feel, as he did not feel angry at his brother for murder, nor did he feel rejoice in his first kill. Perhaps it was watching his two cousins, in the 63rd and 65th, kill and then die. Maybe it was just the switch of wire inside his head. Whatever the reason, Phyneas was more confused than anything else.He learned to walk and talk on timeBut never cared much to be heldand steadily he would declineInto his solitary shellPeople began to notice he was different long before he could remember. When he was pushed to the ground as a toddler, Phyneas never sought help from his parents. Instead, he sat on his large behind as big, droopy tears made streaks on his chubby face, then, once the pain passed, he stood up and continued on his wobbly way. Some thought it was strange that a boy could be so distant from his parents, others assumed it would mean great things, eliminating all need for emotional connections. The only think that people could agree was that the Pine boy was not a normal young boy.
When he entered the training center, Phyneas became obsessed with the knifes. He would throw them again and again, not satisfy with his work until he could hit the target in the middle with his eyes closed. Then, he would walk the target further back, and begin again. When he began a training session, nothing could stop the intense young man. His hunger did not matter, his thirst did not matter, and his family did not matter. All that mattered was perfecting that throw, making the air whistle and hitting the target. Nothing could distract him when he was in this world. Yet, when the world of training disappeared, he was left to face reality.
As a boy he was considered somewhat odd
Kept to himself most of the time
He would daydream in and out of his own world
but in every other way he was fineHis strange personality lead to him being a bit of an outcast, sitting alone at lunches, staring off into the sky. These moments of serenity lead to a long train of thought, sometimes looping together, creating a pattern in his mind. The other kids would giggle if he muttered to himself, so he kept it quiet. They couldn't understand him, especially when it came to school. Although he struggled with the arts and history, Phyneas liked numbers. They were practical, and easy to understand. With the same intensity he found while training, Phyneas could crack the code of any problem, whether it was algebra, trigonometry, or physics. The numbers and letter just made sense in a world where nothing else did. When the seventh day of the game rolled around, Ares was doing okay. Him and his ally were well supplied, and only had to outlast a few more tributes. The sky was unleashing a downpour, making it hard to see the grey forms that were the tributes. But when the camera caught sight of Ares, his sword was burning through the grey mist. It was clear that betrayal was on his agenda, so with great gusto Ares attacked his partner, determined to wipe out District 1. HIs first attack was good, a nice gash and a gruesome burn. But the girl retaliated quickly. The grey haze did not show the details, only the long outline of a sword going through the neck of his brother. Ares. He's a Monday morning lunatic
Suddenly, he is four. The kite flies above his head as he watches Ares run down the street, and with a small shove the kite is in the air. With admiration and glorification, Phyneas smiles at his brother, who glances back then refocusses on the kite. "You're really cool." He says, the goofy grin plastered on. Ares looks at him, an emotion runs across his face before his usual I-don't-give-a-damn expression replaces it. "Shut up." But nothing can diminish admiration, and Phyneas always admired Ares. Yet, something bothered him about Ares death. The stupid decision to try and betray some one who was clearly just as strong, made Phyneas angry. His brother was better than that. He shouldn't have been so stupid, and made a reckless error like that. Others said that it was a smart idea, just poorly performed, and what did he know anyway... he was just a retard.
