Anthem, Day 8

Battle-ravaged and weary, you make your way to the safest place you can find to bed down for the night. Predictably, just after the sky goes dark, a wall of sound blares through the Arena. It’s almost as if the Gamemakers are making the Anthem louder every night just do demand your attention. The Capitol wants blood after the feast of it that it recieved today. The end draws nigh. As your eyelids droop ever lower, the faces of your fallen fellow tributes flash across the stars:

Four tributes dead. After you do some quick mental math, you come to the realization that there are only four more tributes left in the Arena. Three more people must die if you are to go home. Congratulations on surviving day seven, tributes.

But in the as the sun rises, you feel something, a gentle swaying, almost as if you’re being rocked in someone’s arms. A gentle cooing noise rises up to meet your ears, and you fully awaken to realize that you are being borne upon the backs of dozens of Kodama, gently bearing you to your destiny. After a short remainder of your trip, they gently deposit you on the ground and crowd around you, petting your head in a way that seems almost sympathetic before they withdraw a few yards, still watching. Always watching.
