Acerie 'Ace' Pine
Report
Patient number: 1154
Patient name: Acerie Pine
Gender: Male
Age: 15 years old
Status: Alive
Notes: Patient shall be referred to as 'Ace'
Physical description: Ace has the body of a well fed, well cared for boy. His hair colour is light blonde which only appears lighter in the sunlight. His hair is quite short length and always swept to the left in a side sweep. He has dark brown eyes, they almost look black from far away but if you get closer you can notice they are more brownish not black. He has light skin, quite light skin in fact. He stands at an impressive 5'6, indicating he will be very tall when he's older, at least six foot as he still has quite some time to grow. Now although Ace does not possess much muscle (as he is not undergoing career training) he definitely is well fed, weighing in at 120 pounds.
While not a career he is certainly rich (as to be expected being related to the Birch family). He usually eats the right amount of meals daily, when asked why he is not overweight he replies with the fact he watches his weight. While well cared for by his parents, his body doesn't seem to be well cared for by him. Repeated episodes of him sneaking out at night and undergoing mischief usually ends with him being injured. He has been sent to hospital numerous times for burn wounds and broken bones, when asked what he was doing he replied with 'I was only playing around with my mates' and tells us no more.
As a result of this he has numerous burn scars on his hands, from first and second degree burns, it is most probable he was setting fire to things when no one was looking. However, there have been a lot of times he has been caught doing things illegal leading to him being flogged. He has a ridiculous amount of scars on his back, some over lapping. However, in recent months he has not been flogged by the peacekeepers as much.
It can be noted that while white, a few of his teeth are crooked. This can be from the many fights he has been in (he usually ends up losing because a lot of the kids are careers) and he takes blows to the mouth. Sometimes he he might be manhandles by a peacekeepers when caught doing something wrong and gets hit in the mouth, either way a few teeth are noticeably crooked and he will need braces. As a boy undergoing puberty it is expected that he is growing hair on his body, arms, legs, armpits and even a little above his lip. On his chest he has a mild case of acne around his chest which he finds distressing, hence why he never wears clothes that expose his chest, usually buttoning his shirts to the very top.
He is mostly found in expensive clothing but a lot of the times this expensive clothing gets dirty from his constant time spent outside. As a result his parents have given him clothing for formal occasions (the expensive clothing) and clothing for him going outside, such as tracksuits, shorts, T-shirts etc. It can be noted that whenever he comes in for his physiology sessions he wears his more formal clothes.
Progress: Various psychologist have described Ace as a difficult patient. However, he has been making progress in the six months he has been with us since his parents sent him here for help. Originally he had been sent here due to his unruly behaviour and how unbelievably shameful he was to his family. His behaviour is rude, unruly, undignified and he is seen as a general nuisance to society, not conforming to any standards or expectations given to him. He frequently takes advantage of his privileged birth, using any money his parents give him to fuel his general hooliganism. We were tasked with figuring out the cause of this behaviour and defusing this.
Ace is clearly the problem child of his family, not even going through career training, always gets in trouble with peacekeepers, teachers and parents; it is little wonder why he was sent here. While he lacks any discipline he still has many friends as he admitted himself. He calls himself charismatic which is completely justified considering all the friends he has. He is always seen in a big group around the District, and more often than not he is the one is the one in the centre of the clique.
While not disciplined he is not at all lazy, almost always spending his days outdoors doing something, hence all the scars he has. One time he admitted to going to a secluded area to simply burn stuff with his friends. When asked why he took part in such acts he simply responded that it was 'just for a laugh'. He also seems to enjoy climbing things: trees, buildings, if it has height he'll probably climb it. He has no fear of falling, claiming he never falls and isn't worried about falling. However, he clearly has fallen many times before due to all of the bruises and scars he has on his body.
After going through more and more tests with him it has been discovered that him and his parents do have issues. They are pretty much ashamed of him and is a failure in there eyes, sometimes even going so far as to act like he is not their son. I believe this simply provokes him to act out more because he obviously feels slighted by not being acknowledged as being part of the family. His parents need to take a different approach, treat him better maybe, not just throw money his way and leave him to do what he likes with it, then maybe we may gain more progress. It must also be quite irritating for him as well because while he is ignored his siblings however are treated with the love that he lacks and are acknowledged more than he is.
Ace just seems to naturally have a rebellious, spoiled attitude. Had this been stopped earlier it wouldn't have gotten to this point. Ace is a person who doesn't conform with ideology, as a rich person people expect him to not talk to people of lower class, look down on them maybe. However, Ace is not like that. He rebels against the ideology and talks to whoever he likes, more often than not poorer people in District two, the miners, the non-careers, he is friends with them and doesn't care what his parents say about it because he said 'they can't control who I am friends with.' He admitted he picked up a lot of his habits (sneaking out, climbing, drinking, fighting) from those he is friends with. So a clear root of all these problems are the people he hangs out with.
Overall, Ace has been a difficult patient to work with who is making slow progress with his behaviour, however, we have made good progress in identifying the problem.
Subject's history: According to Ace, Ace's childhood was relatively normal, he was born in a rich, healthy and relatively happy household. Being the third oldest child in the family. He claims he wasn't given as much attention due to him being the middle child which he claims angered him quite a bit. His parents never came to the training centre to watch him practice, only the older children or the youngest child. He was forced to become a career at eight years old despite the fact he said he didn't want to, however, his parents made him do it anyway as it would bring pride to the Pine's and Birch's.
It was when his cousin Cassius Birch was reaped and killed into the sixty-third Hunger Games he realized he didn't want to be a career and he didn't want to go into the games. He said he thought being a career made you almost invincible in the arena but Cassius just proved otherwise. He realized that the careers weren't special, they were just robots, robots sent to fight in the Hunger Games, at least that's what he claimed. He was later kicked out of career training for trying to stab the instructor in the neck with a spear. When asked why he did this he claimed 'the instructor was pissing me off'. Combined with the sudden realization of what he thought they were he just acted out against the instructor.
He was taken out to the square and flogged, twenty lashes he got and he nearly passed out. "I think that's when it started, when they flogged me for realizing what we are." His parents claim he was never the same after that, although before this he did have his problems, getting into scuffles with other kids, arguing but his behaviour only collapsed after that. He found new friends, the poorer kids, the ones who worked in the mines, the ones who couldn't afford to be careers, the homeless. He claims that's when they taught him stuff, taught him about climbing, how it was fun to burn stuff, of course when they got caught Ace would be whipped with them but they still did it, he claims they had fun.
He begun sneaking out at night to hang out with them more, and at night it was harder to be caught because no one could see their faces as easy. Of course afterwards he'd have to go back home to his rich house and family.
During the 65th Games his other cousin Beatrice Birch was reaped and killed, she was decapitated by another young girl from District three. Ace said he strangely felt nothing, he didn't know her properly, they weren't that close and were only cousins, at least that's what he claimed.
And then during the 66th games he had two of his cousins volunteer, Ares Pine and Hannah McEwen. Now Ares' death was a bit more hard hitting on him, as a family they were closer so naturally he admitted he was more upset. However, he was also angry, angry that they volunteered to die, he called them fools and punched a potted plant so it fell to the floor and the pot shattered. He's still clearly completely getting over it.____________________
In conclusion, Ace should still continue attending sessions, while it has been the designated six months, we have not made enough progress. I also recommend his lessons are more frequent, three times a week should suffice. These will continue until he is a more valued member of society.
