Appearance:
On the corner of a torn madras lying on the floor, a teenage girl was sitting. She scrubbing dirt of her legs with the tip of her fingernails. At first sight, her legs seemed surprisingly muscular for such a young girl. After taking a closer look, it became obvious that her muscles was showing so clearly, not because she was strong and well-built but the opposite. The bones in her legs were sticking out and she suddenly looked fragile and vulnerable. Her dark-brown hair kept falling in her face, but she didn’t seem to mind. With her long hair was tangled in to big knots, a layer of dirt surrounding her pale skin and her may bruises and scars, it became rather oblivious that this girl wasn’t very concerned with her looks. With jade-green eyes, and a dark circle surrounding her iris, her gaze gave an intense and for some almost intimidating impression. Even being a small girl, only 5’3” long and 108 lbs, she isn’t the type that went unnoticed.
She is beautiful, but in a childish way, since the starvation has taken its turns on her development of becoming an adult woman. The skin is tightly dragged around her ribs, with barely any bodyfat, it's no suprise that this girl doesn't come from a rich family. Her muscular hands and dirty feet gives a hint about her outdoors-way of life. The simple green dress she was wearing, ended just above her knees and had torn stitches and patches sewned on the cover eariler made wholes. With almost an dancing feeling she began walking out of the room. Her walking style made her seem confident, she walked with a straight back and long steps
Personality:
As a stranger, meeting Aria Riverdale won’t be such a pleasure. With a wall for protection built for keeping strangers out, she is hard to reach out to. She is not particularly nice either, not really the kind of girl you want to be locked in an elevator for several hours with, for example. For her, this can create difficulties. She is no particular lone-wolf, and actually really enjoys having good friends. The problem is making new friends. She doesn’t like to feel exposed regarding feelings and can seem kind of awkward or uptight. She prefers surrounds herself with non-speaking creatures since they won’t judge her. A small part of her, hiding behind her rude comments and social awkwardness, is just afraid of being rejected. When somebody actually gets by her defense, and she lets them in, there is no stop for her love. She is a very loyal person to the ones she holds dear, and would give her own life to protect anyone she loves. Her biggest achilles-heel is her family and her beloved ones. She can’t stand to see anybody she loves in pain. As she has a hard time making new friends, or overall talking to people she doesn’t know, she isn’t very much of a team-player. Co-operation with others makes her frustrated and mad, since she is convinced she would do a much greater job by herself.
With a never ending determination, there is no limit for her stubbornness. When she decides to do something she won’t ever give up. This is one of her greatest weaknesses but also one of her greatest strengths. Causing unnecessary arguments isn’t uncommon for Aria, but neither is winning. Since she is willing to go further than most of her opponents to win, she often succeeds. She has a strong taste for success and loves winning. Her confident in her own winning can also often come off as arrogant. With a gifted and quick mind, she often uses her own flexibility to avoid pressing situations. As a sibling of six, she learned in her early years that winning is the best way to stay on top. Being the oldest with four younger brother and the only girl older than the brothers, she had to fight for maintaining her authority in the family. As her oldest brother, Cedar who is just one year younger than her reached puberty, he grew and became about a head taller than her.
Her late development isn’t only regarding her body. She can act rather childish when put in pressure and often flees her problems instead of dealing with them. She doesn’t like being questioned. Neither has she any specific interest in love or meeting a partner. Some say that will come when she is ready, but she herself is questioning it. Maybe someday, and since she is particularly already raising children on her own, she wouldn’t mind having her own one day. Her father is a butcher, working in a neighbors business, he’s almost always busy with work, and since her mother died in child labor with Arias youngest sister, she has been head of the family. Taking care of her younger siblings, Aria learned to handle big responsibilities and often acting like more adult than she is.
History:
On a warm summer night, in the end of July, a young girl was born. Mr Opal Riverdale, father of this young girl were running around the house, filled with panic. How was he supposed to ever provide for this creature? The economics were already running low while he was only providing for himself and his wife. She had cried and begged him until he gave in, one child, only one child. Filled with panic he rushed into the bedroom where his wife was delivering, and just as he stepped into the room he heard a little baby screaming. He froze in the door, completely paralyzed with fear. The woman helping with the delivering turned around, she handed him a little baby girl rapped into a big blanket. In silence, he held his first born daughter in his arms. A tear suddenly streamed down his cheek and he decided from that moment on that she was the best thing that could possibly have happened. He carefully grabbed her little fingers while sitting down beside his wife by the bed.
“Aria Olive Riverdale, it shall be” he said stubbornly. His wife just continued on crying, and crying. She shook her head and rocked back and forth, as he realized the tears weren’t out of happiness. As he asked why he was crying, she screamed at him in panic. Her child was not a boy. She needed her to be a boy. A baby girl couldn’t help them with anything, she was useless. As the baby’s own mother tried convincing her father that they should drown her in the river, he promised her as many sons as she wanted. He loved his baby girl from first sight, and ever since she has been the apple of his eye.
Aria grew up continuing the same path. Her entire life she has been despised by her mother and glorified by her father. As the years passed by, her mother got the sons she always wanted. It actually only took about a year for her oldest brother, Cedar to come along. Two years after Cedar, Caspian came along. When Caspian turned 5 years old, the twins took their first breath. Lemon and Parsley never got the meet their own mother; she died that day while delivering. Nothing has ever been the same ever since. Mad with grief, Opal decided to distance himself from the world. Never acting like a father again, he focused all of his energy on the butchery. Ashamed of his own behavior, he didn’t dare to patch up his relationships to his children. When Arias mother passed away, the familys starvation started for real. In a big family with one low income, it didn’t take long before starvation hit the family hard. Under nourished children wasn’t an uncommon sight when entering the Riverdale house.
At a time in need Aria began helping out at the butchery, so she developed a high tolerance for brutalities. At first, the blood and the animals suffering bothered her a lot. Every single night, she woke up screaming from her nightmares. She has always been an animal-lover. At a young age, she used to visit the butchery, just to pet the animals before they went in to slaughter. She cried everytime one of her animal friends had to meet their brutal destiny. Her father then forbidden her to come visit, but in a time of need, he had no other choice then letting his beloved daughters naive innocence be crushed into pieces. When she started helping out at the butchery, within time she learned to objectify the animals. She began building the hard skin she has today. She can’t be described as a soulless monster without any fears, quite the opposite. Her biggest fear probably would be entering the Hungergames and maybe losing the morale she has left.
