Mayor Marlboro McFadden
It is hot.
Too hot; I can tell by the perspiration dripping off of my face. The heat of the sun is compounded by the crowds of people that seem to be just about everywhere, clogging the air with the stench of bodies and radiating heat of their own. I sigh. The new system being put in is a great, perhaps the greatest undertaking in my districts brief existence, but I honestly can't wait for all the visitors to go back to where they came from. I suppose this must be what it is like in the capitol, everyone all up under each other. It's damn annoying to be blunt. Which is one of the many reasons I've chosen to help dig the canal. It gets me away from most of the drama, and lets me reconnect with some of the people actually from my district. Except that I'm not digging at the moment, because there are some people in the district that need to be watched.
Bloom. Monaghan. Wie. I wouldn't have thought much about the names if not for the district numbers that are attached to them. This can't be a coincidence. There is simply no way that kids with those particular names and from those three particular districts are not in some way related to the tributes that had made it to the finale of the fifty-ninth annual hunger games. I rub the sweat out my eyes with one hand, checking my papers again to see where each of them are stationed. Not that it matters. I have no doubt in my mind about their intentions. They will seek Mace out, whether for revenge, or closure, or whatever the hell else was is on their minds I don't know, but I know that I can head them off at least. And if things go south, there are plenty of peacekeepers around.
Being Mayor does have some perks after all. Like knowing where certain people are at any given time.
It doesn't take me long to find Emberstatt. Though in retrospect, it never does. "Mace." I say slowly as I approach, "I've got something I need to bring to your attention." I hand the paper over, making sure that the names Mace needs to see are circled in red. It's easy to feel sorry for the victor being put in this position, and I do, but I'm worried that this could lead to an incident if not handled properly. Which is why I felt it was best to give Mace a leg up. "This information is yours to do with as you see fit. Just...try not to cause a scene. The capitol is always watching and I'm sure they'd love to see what might happen." I shoot the victor a sympathetic grimace as I walk away, cane in one hand and shovel in the other, ready to get back to digging ditches. "Take care of your business kid." While I try to make sure that the general populace doesn't come around looking for a show, I think as I leave him with his thoughts and that damn paper.
- I stayed intentionally vague about locations, because I didn't want to ruin wherever you all might have wanted your characters to be. ^^
