IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE, she wouldn't have a thicket of corkscrewed brown hair growing like crabgrass around her, streching down to her midback. Nor would her thick lips cover her buck teeth, making a mockery of every sly smile that manages to etch across her face. The slits she calls eyes could be replaced by the large eyes her grandfather has, or her mother before her had, and her scaley hands and calloused feet would be like sand instead of sandpaper.

IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE, the dark skin coating her wouldn't be lying against the raw ground, dirt paintings taking home under her nails. Her mind wouldn't be scattered among the varient universes in a different one, because she would finally take up responsibilities in another one. The stars wouldn't be her only friend, like in this universe, and she would stop cherishing the moments she was alone. Thoughts scrambled in her mind wouldn't have to be the only voices she heard, because in this universe she found them friendlier. Even in a different life her closest friend wouldn't be unreachable versions of herself somewhere else in the galaxy.

IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE, her biggest responsibility would be something other than running further into the smoke of her own starry imagination. Something other than everything her twin would be doing, because she cares more for Morgan than she does herself, even with copies of herself being more important to her than the one already proved to exist. Voices of her mother would rebound around the walls instead of their grandpa, because they'd live with her in a house rather next to her grave.

IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE, the other universes wouldn't matter, because maybe her dreams would be reality instead.
