Her dark hair was messy, but then again, when wasn't it? She hardly bothered to brush anymore, and it had been that way since she was only a little girl, back when her mother used to tell her appearances were everything. As soon as she was old enough she knew she had never heard anything so foolish. Appearances were everything. Who in the hell cared about appearances in a place like Twelve? Things were far from beautiful there, where hunchbacked men with coal-dust and sweat kicked under their fingernails tried their hardest to provide for starving families, where raggedy old houses were in uniform lines everywhere you looked, the only half decent ones being those of the Victor's Village, and until recently, not a damn one of those were in use. District Twelve was the cesspool of Panem, and everyone knew it.

Her eyes were green, with that ever-present undertone of gray that seemed to live within everyone in the district. Despite the warmth for which the color represented, they remained cold to the world, frozen and filled with hatred. That's what a lifetime of nothing caused in people. They were framed in dark lashes that would've been pretty, had she ever been wealthy enough to afford things like make-up.

She had a strong face that was borderline masculine, but she was still pretty nonetheless. Her jaw was strong, which added to the intimidation factor she so willingly uses on people, and her lips were bold and wide. A crooked smile was something she would never be able to fix with the resources she was given, which meant she was always going to have bad teeth, but in her eyes it was better than not having any at all.

Her cheeks sunk in, and that combined with her typical scowl (she seemed to do it even when she wasn't angry) made her look desperate, like she was moments away from either breaking down and begging for help or going on a killing spree. Though, with Andy, the second option was far more likely.

She didn't show her emotions to people, and was far too stubborn to ever ask for help, no matter how badly she needed it. The one piece of advice her mother told her as a child that she actually found use for were five simple words, and she lived by them fiercely: save it for the pillow. She was not a machine, and just because she wouldn't allow any assistance with them, didn't mean she wasn't aware that her family struggled. She was broken into a million pieces, and somehow, her life had turned into finding away of living until the pieces finally put themselves back together. If they ever even did.

Other than spending every bit of free time she can in her family's butcher shop slicing meat and picturing the whiny school girls that never noticed her, she stayed around her two little siblings, both of whom everyone knew not to mess with. She didn't particularly enjoy either of them, but when it came down to it, as messed up as her family was, no one was ever allowed to throw in their own twist to make things any harder. If they did, or if they even tried, Andy took care of it.

Her parents weren't supposed to be together. Her mother's parents had already forbidden the relationship of the recently graduated couple, but when the enormous bump began to protrude from her abdomen, there wasn't really anything they could do to stop it, other than beg Andy's mother to give her up for adoption, however, the child was their only way to stay together, so she refused. Their life together did come with a price, which was losing almost all contact with Andy's grandparents. Her mother thought her own parents hated her, and that was what Andy, and the rest of the family believed until they were both dead. It was on the day that they were reunited with each other in the ground that the District Officials claimed they had left their Butcher Shop to their one and only daughter.

Andy's father, who had been working in the mines to support the two of them and their new child, finally had the means to do so, since people were always going to need food. Things were great for the three of them, though Andy's mother never really got over her parents taking their disagreement with who she had chosen to marry to the grave. Eventually, another little girl joined them in the world, and then soon after, a boy, and though things would never be easy for them, they were going to make it work. They had to.
