Name: Sahalie Avner
Age: fourteen
Gender: female
District/Area: District 5
Appearance:
Sahalie looks just like your average young girl. She's not anything special or at least that's what she would tell you. Her medium to long dark hair is usually done up in braids as she's going to school or walking around the district. Its rarely ever seen down mostly because even down it would be extremely wavy. She claims that when down it is unmanagable and so therefore she tries to keep it up. Sahalie seems a bit small for her fourteen years of age, standing at only about four feet and seven inches. She's still growing but isn't sure exactly how tall she may get. She weighs about ninety seven pounds putting her somewhere on the average for a girl her age and size.
She prefers to wear earth toned colors but is seen in blues and reds more often then not. Jeans are usually a part of her attire unless she is feeling rather girly that day. In which case she can be seen in dresses and skirts. Her fair complexion seems to be in slight contrast to her darker eyes and hair. Its gives her an interesting look altogether. Sahalie wears a locket around her neck with a picture of her family inside and on the other side there is a name. There are intials on the back of the locket and that's the only piece of jewerly the young girl wears despite the fact that her family does have enough money to get her more. She always greets you with a smile which make all her features seem bright. She has a scar on her left knee from falling while playing when she was younger.
Personality:
Sahalie has a rather pleaseant air about her. She is friendly when you meet her on the street though she is shy. She's not very talkative, but will help a person in need out. The young girl is bound and determined to live her life to the fullest despite the fact that it could end at any time due to the games. Sahalie never gives words to how she feels about the games. If her parents were to give you a few words on how to describe her they would likely be, sweet, kind, caring, smart. Her teachers would likely say the same thing. She is generally curious about everything even if she isn't speaking up. She watches everyone with interest and she learns by doing and hearing. She could care less about reading but she does it as a means to learn more.
Sahalie feels like she has to live life for two people. She feels its her duty to do everything and be all that she can be and more. At times it seems that she pushes herself to much and when it really gets to be two much she curls up into a ball and rocks back and forth or she blacks out. Neither of which would be good in the arena if she was ever put there. Sahalie takes comfort in her own company because she is never alone. The voice that is inside her of her head that tells her what is right or wrong isn't like other's voices. Hers is that of her sister that did not make it past their third day of life. She always has the voice to talk too. Of course she doesn't let others know. Her favorite place in her district is the windmills that produce the windpower for their district and is just another part of the production of power in her district.
Sahalie loves to make others happy. When she is extremely interested in something she tends to ask way to many questions which is in stark contrast to her usual quietness. She loves to hum and be alone walking through the grass that surrounds the windmills. She will do anything to make her parents proud of her. She is terrified if truth be told, of being in the games but she knows that if the time comes the time comes. She wishes to live life until a rip old age and have children of her own. She's just living her life one day at a times. Its nice to dream about the long run but she's not foolish enough to dwell on that for too long because of the risk of being choosen at the reaping. Its been three or so years now since she's been going and the intial shock has warn off and its just another routine day with just a little more added stress that she has to account for so as not to get overwhelmed.
History:
Sahalie is the second and only surviving child or Amy and Hans Avner. Amy is a systems analyst while Hans works as a maintenance worker at the various power plants around the district. They were overjoyed when they finally became pregnant with Sahalie and her sister Stephanie. They joy was not to last though. Amy had complications with the pregnancy and it was a hit or miss if the girls were going to live in the first place. The fateful day of delivery came and Amy was blessed to have brought two beautiful little girls into the world. Stephanie was out first but something seemed to be wrong from the get go. Sahalie had to be retrieved from her mother's womb with a little bit of help. They were both cleaned up but as the days passed it seemed Stephanie got not better and eventually died due some fatal disease that Sahalie still doesn't know or understand. Sahalie however, made it out in one piece and was at the time a healthy bouncing bundle of joy.
Sahalie comprehended the fact that she had, had a twin early in life. She was sad each time they went to see her sister's grave for a long time. It wasn't until she was about four or five that she started talking to what her parents figured was an imaginary friend. Amy realized it wasn't when Sahalie sat down on her sister's grave and started talking as if she'd been having a conversation with her before. Amy wasn't sure what to do about that and Hans once her realized was at a loss for words. They weren't sure how it was happening but as Sahalie got older she stopped talking and would sit by herself for hours on end at the windmills. She was about eight or so when she through her father for a complete and total loop. Her parents had thought that for sure she would follow in her mother's footsteps. She liked to look around and ask questions and come up with her own theories or why things were the way they were.
Hans had taken his daughter into work that day. They were fixing up a row of the windmills and her father was just an extra hand. The eight year old Sahalie was watching all the men work closely and on the last one she piped up and said that it wasn't going to start working. Hans turned to his daughter with a puzzled look on his face and the other gentlmen he was working with stopped what they were doing. It took Sahalie no time at all to explain why it wasn't going to start. It was missing a curcial part and it wasn't until the men looked again that they saw it. Hans was extremely proud of his daughter for noticing something that he and the others had not. She got strawberries for desert that night and she took a long time to eat them as they didn't get them very often.
The day she turned twelve she terrified about what would happen once the reaping game. She stood in the line to get her finger pricked, trying not to freak out. Once she got into the line with the others the stress and fear got the better of her and she fell over passing out before the names were even read. She was carried by a peacekeeper to her parents. She wasn't even sure what had happened and it took her a day or two to calm down. The second year was a little easier and now its routine even though its only her third year going. She knows what to expect and she prepares herself for the possiblity that it might be someone she knows going to their deaths. She tries to put on a brave face but its just a show because she doesn't want anyone to know she's still terrified. She growing up to be a brilliant young lady and brings joy and understanding to those around her if they care to listen when she does talk. Sahalie just wants to make it out of reaping ages but while she waits she will live life as if she were living it for herself and for her sister. After all, all one can do is live.
