All the world is out to get me--open

Kailani woke up that morning feeling the training session from the night before. It wasn't a session given to her by one of her trainers no it was given to her by her own stepmother. For some reason Maris was pissed. She wasn't sure why but something she and Kona did had upset Maris. Kona had gone out to take Mara walking and that was when it happened. Maris came out her like a bat out of hell. Kailani didn't fight back at first. She wanted to know what was going on but by the time Maris had her hanging outside of her own window Kailani's instincts to stay alive kicked in. She started kicking and fighting as fast as she could. The pain she felt right now was nothing compared to the first time something like this happened. It hurt none the less though. She took the beating as another training session. All she could do was take it that way so that she didn't have to admit the abuse that she recieved at home. That she took so that Kona and Mara didn't have too. Maris hated her merely because she had been her father's favorite even after he had married Maris. She was the other woman's child. So was Kona but Kona was a man and though Kailani knew she couldn't protect her brother as much as she wanted too Maris knew it was Kona that could bring them home money. 

Kona walked into her room a few moments later. "Lani you alright?" Kailani sat up in her bed slowly and nodded her head. "I'm good...just a little sore." She was lying really but Kona wouldn't call her on it because he knew why she said it. "Is Mara up yet. I promised to take her out today." Kona shook her head and Kailani let lose a breath she didn't realize she was holding in. Kona helped her get up and checked her over. "You really have to stop taking it all Lani. She's gonna end up killing you if you aren't careful." "I know Kon but I'd rather it be me then you or Mara. Especially not Mara. I don't want her to know." "Lan you know, she knows what you do for us." All Kailani could do was nod her head. Kona started to laugh and Kailani looked up at him as she moved across her room to get her things. "I know I know i'm stubborn." She laughed herself as the pain started to subside with the laughter. 

Once all was said and done Kailani, Kona, and Mara walked off towards their favorite spot on the small beach just a little bit away from their house. Nothing mattered to any of them but the smell of the sea and collecting seashells. They would gather the fish that got trapped in the pools and threw them back into the ocean. They always threw them back hoping that they would be safe and able to swim and breed themselves.
