Felix Skye, a 15 year old boy, pulled a white t-shirt over his head. The t-shirt was in fairly good condition, but one could tell that Felix had really lived in it. It was dulled down to almost an off-white, speckled with subtle stains and dirt weathering. Felix wore this shirt often because the capital didn't supply the districts with much. Sure, 2 was pretty wealthy, but the capital isn't into the whole concept of sharing. Felix had multiple copies of the same cheap outfit, with some variations. Maybe a change in the color of his jeans or a long sleeve or a tank top instead of a short sleeve. One of the luxuries that Felix did have were his shoes. He had khaki desert boots from a French brand, imported from the capital.
The area of district 2 that Felix, his mother, his father, and his sister lived in was fairly poor compared to the rest of the district, but this didn't prevent the kids from doing anything that the rich kids did. They went to school, trained for the games, worked at the stone factory, read books, etc. Felix didn't really have many friends, neither did he have time for having them. He was always busy. Whether it was working out, training, doing his job, or doing homework, he never had free time. This was fine with Felix, because he enjoyed most of his activities.
In training, Felix specialized in hand-to-hand combat and sword combat. At the complex, he used a very nice sword that was light and perfectly balanced. A sword like this would be provided in the games if he was selected, as he was a career. Numerous dummies had been torn to shreds by Felix, and he would continue to tear many, many more. Training had become very easy to Felix because he was very strong and not easily distracted.
Felix planned to become a peacekeeper in three years when he turned 18, if he was not chosen to fight in the games between the present and then. Felix admired the peacekeepers who roamed district 2, with their military expressions and their crisp white uniforms. They had been a role model for him to become strong and battle-ready. No specific peacekeepers had inspired Felix, but it was the general idea of the peacekeepers that he liked.
After getting dressed, Felix stuck his feet in his shoes and walked out of his room into the kitchen. His bag for school had been prepared the night before, so he just had to wash up, eat breakfast, and head out the door. Those were fairly simple tasks, completed in a matter of minutes. Felix said goodbye to his parents and headed out the door towards the school.
