Writing Thoughts Says Hears

District 11 was dying. The sun was killing everything. The orchards were already dried up and the leaves were dying. No fruit were growing on them and the flowers disappeared a month ago. The beauty of District 11 was replaced with some dry and crappy land. Lindy was dying there. They were using water from other districts. Many volunteer members had came to help out the lower districts from the drought. Lindy knew this was a perfect time for Craig to sneak in, all he had to do was say he was here to help District 11 with their struggles and then they could escape to District 9. The grain district. Lindy had left the house already to go check if Craig was there. Where she'd hope he'd be. She need to escape the place that her father was. He would just cause more trouble to her physically. She could still feel his hands on her as he would slap her after she mouthed off. She was safe from the reaping and so she wanted to be safe from everything else. All she wanted was to be with Craig and have a family. Craig was a gift to her and she wanted to be with him. Something about him just made her feel safe with him. She looked over at the orchard trying to find him and as soon as she did, she noticed the brown haired man standing by the tree. Her first reaction was to cry, but she went with her second reaction, which was to charge him and wrap her arms around him. She smiled as she pulled away from him. Her head feeling dizzy from the excitement. She just hugged him again, not being able to think of something to say. She was just happy, happy to see him again.

Does, Says, Thinks

He had been in the woods for days now, and it was starting to feel as though he would never make it. Perhaps the capitol has snapped him up while he slept and stuck him into a fake forest designed to keep him walking forever. He wouldn't put it past them. That was when he saw the break in the trees and the glint of the fence that separated District eleven from the world. Weary, he had slept in a nook a distance from the fence. The next morning he got up at dawn and went to investigate the fence. It was without a gap, but he had prepared himself for such a case. Pulling out wire cutters he cut through the fence and slipped through. It took him a bit to find somewhere he could blend in and pretend he was part of the help that had come to the lower districts. Then it was just a matter of time until Lindy would come look for him. He had told her he would be coming soon, so he hoped she would know where to look for him.

It only took a day before she found him. He was in one of the orchards, trying to look like he was part of the helping effort - though with as much standing around as he was doing it was a wonder her didn't get caught - when he was hugged from behind. Instantly he turned his head to look and felt a wave of relief and joy crash over him as he saw it was Lindy. He twisted in her grip until he was able to hug her back. "I got here as soon as I could. Are you okay?" He stroked her hair, unable to keep from smiling despite his worry for her. "Ripred I missed you."

Craig was right in front of her. She had her arms around him and the scent coming into her nose. The smell that told her it was Craig. She was about to cry. The joy of him being back with her. HE hugged her back after twisting in her grip. His beautiful voice ringing in her ear. "I got here as soon as I could. Are you okay?" She put on a small smile, trying to keep him from worrying too much. She tried to speak, but it came out as more of a jumble of words. Then Craig began stroking her hair softly. Another few words came out of his mouth, "Ripred I missed you." She pulled away finally. A foot away at least. Her voice was faltering the entire time, "I-I am not okay, but now I am. I-I m-missed you too." A few tears trickled down her cheek. She immediately wiped them away with her sleeve. She went for another hug. Her body pressed into Crag's. The feeling was safe and comfortable for her. She held onto to him like she did in the experiment. He was her safety line. The only place she felt safe was with him. She wasn't okay, thanks to her father. A few bruises still fading from her arms and legs. She was smart enough to cover them up and fight the wince that she was feeling whenever she hugged Craig. She had to escape. She needed to disappear from District 11 and go to Craig's district. Her voice came out quietly, but sure of herself, "C-Can we leave today? I-I want to stay with you in District 9."

He could hear her stumble over words, again and again, until she pulled away. For a moment he was scared that something had happened and that she didn't want to go with him any more. Did someone take my place? But it was then she finally managed to choke out words. "I-I am not okay, but now I am. I-I m-missed you too." His heart squeezed painfully at what she said, and one hand clenched into a fist. It was that bastard of a father she had, he was sure of it. If it wasn't going to get him in trouble, and put him a place where he would be unable to help Lindy against the jerk, then he would have gone to him and beaten him up - just as he had done to Lindy. She stepped back in and hugged him again, and he could feel her tears making damp spots in his shirt. The small cringe she made when she locked her arms around him was more than enough to tell him that she had been hit again. As much as he wanted to chastise her for putting herself in a place where she could suffer abuse again he knew it wasn't what she needed. She needed him to be strong. She needed-

"C-Can we leave today? I-I want to stay with you in District 9." She needed to leave. He knew that already, but it wasn't truly apparent until he had heard the fear in her voice just then. They had to leave, sooner rather than later, and today would be as good a chance as any. He pressed her against him, nodding before realizing that she couldn't see. "Yes, but we need to gather supplies. You'll need clothes and any personal belongings you want to keep." He ran his hand through her hair gently, letting the feel of it against his skin soothe him. "I need to get some food, I'm a bad hunter at best and we may have a bit of a time trying to dodge any Peacekeepers." He shut his eyes and just tried to take in the moment, not wanting to let go so soon after they reunited but knowing they needed to. "Do you feel comfortable going home by yourself while I buy some things?" He drew back and cupped her face in his hands, looking into her eyes. "Truthfully."
