A quiet house is something wonderful to work with. Jeran's light snoring on the other end of the hallway tells me that he's enjoying his early sleep. That academy must have really worn him out. It makes me wonder why dad hasn't come by the house to greet him, afterall it's been several weeks since he's been home. He usually stays at the academy, but I've begged for him to come home this one weekend. He has no clue why I wanted him here, but does that really matter? It'll all come out in due course. I just hope that he won't be as severely disappointed in me as my father will... or his new girlfriend. That woman makes me cringe just thinking about it. I sigh a heavy sigh and let my eyes close for a moment as I rest my head against the back of the couch. Slowly, I open them and look around the room.
My eyes travel over to the clock on the wall and see the time. It's almost eight already and no sign of Matthew. Maybe, he didn't get to come home this weekend. Perhaps, it was a good thing I got my brother to come home this weekend. There's a chance that I might tell him beforehand to prepare him what might happen with dad, but telling him would hurt me more if he got pissed than my own father. "Guess you didn't make it."
My heart sinks. I push myself off the couch and walk over to the door, slipping my feet into my slip-ons and open the door. With the heat disapparating from the hot day, the cooler night weather is calming and peaceful. Even the sky is displaying something beautiful with the bright oranges that are mixed in with the pinks and the purples. One side of the sky displays lights while the other displays the coming night. A walk won't hurt but it'll be dark before I get back, I'm sure.
Shutting the door behind me, I stuff my hands into my pockets and descend the stairs and hit the pavement. Step after step, I find myself walking in the direction that I might take to Matthew's place, but there would be no reason to go. He won't be there. He'll be at the academy to gain back those points. He promised he'd be here this weekend... he promised. Is all I can think of. My gaze goes from in front of me down to my stomach for a moment, then to my feet as I see the many cracks in the sidewalk. The broken peices. The misshapen chunks that have been peiced together. Then my eyes move back up and I see a figure in the midst. At first, I don't think anything about it except that it might be some random person taking a nightly stroll as well, but the shape is all too noticable.
"Matthew?" I whisper out. A smile plays on my face as I see him more and more clearer now in the fading light. "Matthew! I thought you were staying..." I quicken my footsteps and wrap my arms around him tightly, nudging my face into his neck. "I've missed you so much. How are you doing?"
