MAKOTO TACHIBANA
For years we all have been training, training for a moment like this. For a moment when we would be allowed to shine, when we would be able to show of everything- all the ears of hard work. Today we were rooting on one of our team member, Nagisa, usually he would swim breastroke, but due to lack of something that event had to be cancelled so instead he had swam freestyle, his body gliding through the water like a torpedo. Gou and I had cheered him on the whole way, our throats raw and red by the end, our faces painted with a smile that was so bright that even those who wore sunglasses would be blinded.
Now we waited by the door, waited for the champion to walk out. I knew that he would be all smiles and giggles because that was the type of boy he was, he was someone who could smile even through hard times. I wanted to be able to smile with him, to be able to congratulate him and celebrate with him- but he would not be the only one we were celebrating for. Gou, too, had managed to sneak through to round two of her event, wrestling. Which was surpising but not at the same time. I half expected her to, considering that she would be surrounded by the one things that got her fire burning stronger than anything else. But then I didn't, as she would be versing people two, three, times her size even.
So you can only imagine my surprise, and happiness, when she send someone twice her size flying to the ground. Smiling I glance down at her, her face still shone from her victory, her eyes dancing with light. A small chuckle escapes my lips and I place a hand on her shoulder and wait for the victorious Nagisa to come bolting around the corner.
