Terresa "Terre" Duran
Age:
15
Gender:
Female
District/Area:
11
Appearance:
Terre stands at 5'5, she has broad shoulders with strong legs and arms from working long days in the field with the majority of her district. But unlike most people, she doesn't have sun darkened skin she has a pale complexion and a dusting of freckles across her cheeks and shoulders. With red/brown hair falling down past her ribs, the loose curls have always annoyed Terre. She would always wind up pulling them up on top of her head to keep it off her neck while she sweated in the fields.
Plenty of people have told Terresa that she has a 'cute face', with her round jaw, pouty full lips, a straight nose, and her freckles - she can see why people would call her 'cute' and sometimes 'dollish'. Besides the fact that her grey eyes are a little too far apart, and her front teeth a little too big for her mouth Terre pretty much agreed with everyone who used those terms.
But she has always throught that she looked a little too childish. And when she matched a childish face with her broad shoulders and strong limbs, she believed she looked like a dis-proportioned ten year old.
Her build offers her a good amount of speed, but her muscles also give her a strong edge. She always tries to work hard in the field when she can, to build her strength and prepare herself for the possible future.
Personality:
Terre is a very opinionated young women. She has her thoughts, and she is most certainly not afraid to share them with others. Whether it be her friends, family, teachers, or the peacekeepers. The later has gotten her into some severe trouble and she maintains some scarring from the punishments she has endured when she slandered the capitol and what they force upon the districts.
She is also very hardworking. She is determined to survive in the cruel environment she lives in. Being one of the poorest districts (right in front of 12), she feels that she should take advantage of the work she has done in the field since she was little. From all of her work, she has gained a strength that surprises many.
Her opinions on the capitol are quite clear. She dislikes them and all that they do. For her and her friends and family to be able to starve while they are the agriculture district made Terre infuriated. Since she was young, she has witnessed her neighbors be punished unfairly for pocketing just one small portion of food from the fields.
But Terre isn't serious all the time, she knows how to take a joke and she can mess around with her friends - the few she has - but she is normally seen as the one who would scold her friends for even bringing up a stupid idea.
History:
Terresa Duran is an only child. When she was little she had always begged her parents to supply her with a little sibling. Whether it be a brother or a sister, she didn't care. Most of her childhood friends had younger or older siblings, and she was immensely jealous of them.
Things changed when her mother committed suicide. She was five.
Terre's father threw himself into his work in the fields. Practically ignoring Terre as she was a constant reminder of her mother - she was almost identical to her. Terre would go to school, work hard, learn their history and the districts trade. She was a top student in her class and she would retract into herself - ignoring her peers and trying not to draw too much attention to herself.
Once she began working the fields with her father, she began to see the horrors of the capitol and of the peacekeepers. She quickly grew to dislike them and state her opinion freely (a trait she unknowingly got from her father). When she was ten she yelled at a peacekeeper from raising a hand against another worker in the field. That was the first time she got smacked around by one of the men in the white uniforms.
When she turned 13 her father was finally talking to her regularly again. He taught her how to stick up for herself, how to land a good punch, and how to work hard and diligently. He told her it would be important if she were to ever get drawn to be a tribute. She already experienced the risk of the hunger games once, and each year she had a greater risk. Terre would study simple techniques she could use that would help her in the arena if she ever found herself in it.
Her constant work and studying didn't allow her much time to become friends with people. Most kids her age didn't care much for quiet and somewhat stoic outward appearance. But after her father began talking to her, she began to open up more from when she was younger, she began to develop more of a personality and she gained a few friends - picked carefully of course.
Now that she's fifteen, she's been working harder then ever, sweating on the fields and asking people about various seemingly unimportant skills. All of her day to day energy was focused on being able to survive the games if she was ever forced into that god forsaken arena.
