Out of the Mines and to the Mountains(Jim,Emery,MentorTrain)

Emery was instructed to shake hands with this Jim Deer guy as the Reaping drew to a close. Already she was feeling stricken by nerves. This guy had volunteered for the Hunger Games in place of another, either he was insane or ready to fight. Both did not mean good news for herself. This new male tribute already was at least double her size, at least from what she could tell. He looked very strong, almost as if he had been working out all his life, and for all she knew he could have been. All these things caused a severe knot to form within the sanctions of her stomach. She knew in the end one of them might be the last ones alive, and she had a feeling it would most likely be him. She didn't want to die bu any means of her imagination but being probably one of the younger tributes didn't help her odds. Not to mention she was a weak little girl from district twelve of all places. She knew her only hope was to find an ally some where along the way and to soak up any advice her mentor gives her.

Her mentor was now a whole different story, Emery had never thoroughly watched the games so she didn't even know her mentor's name. Surely she would eventually but this only showed how much she knew about the Games. Absolutely nothing. Emery only just realized all of this was racing through her head simply as she shook Jim's hand. She forced herself to calm down as she let go and allowed the peace keepers to lead her into the Justice Building. Compared to her house this building was marvelous, everything inside seemed so new and exotic. She was most astounded when they all were taken up a small elevator, a new term she learned from asking her escort. As she continued to follow the peace keepers they led her to a room which they closed the door behind her. The room was small with a small square window a small sofa and an even smaller what seemed to be oak bookshelf. Intrigued by the books she walked over and pulled one out which apparently was about the uses of coal as illustrated on its front cover. Quickly she leaped back when the door swung open. Then once she saw who was entering she slammed the book shut and quickly returned it too its place.

She ran straight into her Mother's open arms and wrapped her's tightly around her. Before she knew it her entire family was in a circle around her embracing her as well. Emery's eyes ,just as her family's, were now showering tears down her cheeks. She longed to stay here with them and have this day be eradicated from existence, but alas she couldn't. She knew she would have to leave them to go fight and possibly kill other children, not to mention with odds stacked highly against her. Eventually the huddle broke and Emery tried to contemplate what to say but her Mother beat her there. She handed her a beautiful silver bracelet and said softly, "I want you to have it, it has been in our family since before the Dark Days. It has always brought us luck so it may help you." She watched her mother swallow hard before saying, "No matter what happens we will always love you." Just as Emery opened her mouth to return her love the peace keepers opened the door and began forcing her family out. In a final distressed scream Emery called, "I love you all!" Then the door shut and she knew no one else would be opening it again.

Surely enough the next time the door opened two peace keepers came in and took her by her arms. Her eyes were still moist though the tears had long since finished falling. Emery felt so emotional exposed that anything could cause her to break down. She was left wallowing to herself as Jim, her escort, and of course herself were taken to a lovely silver train. Emery always heard the other kids call it the final rider for it typically carried off two doomed souls. Today those two would be herself and Jim, whether they were doomed yet, only time would tell. However, Emery surely felt doomed as they were hustled aboard. Emery had to double take the second she entered the first train car designated to the dining/living room. Everything was so expensive, there were things here Emery had only ever been told myths about. Her stomach lurched forward at the sight of all the deliquesces sitting before her. They were perfectly arranged to create a delicious buffet. Part of Emery wanted to smash all these Capitol foods and drinks but another part of her urged to try them all.

Finally giving into temptation, she stepped forward and selected what looked like a mini cheese cake. The moment it entered her mouth a new aura of flavors kissed her tongue. "Mmm," she moaned softly at its richness. Her heart was now beating with excitement, she was like a child on a new play ground. Deciding which poison to try next she picked up a glass of pink liquid. Before touching it to her lips she turned to her escort and asked politely, "Would this be alcoholic by any chance?" Her escort laughed before replying with a simple, "Of course not!" Then with a grin Emery sipped the sweet nectar like liquid. Yet again she was met by a show of flavors causing chills to run along her spine. It was only then she realized she hadn't even talked to Jim or her mentor yet. She considered going up to them now but instead she stopped herself. She turned and gazed out the window as she thought calmly that if they need her they can get her themselves.
