The tiny dark haired girl lay on a bed that was empty of all other life apart from her own steadily beating heart. Normally wide eyes were closed with rest, the mind finally at peace as she slept, for once no nightmares keeping the little girl awake through the night. Moonlight glittered a full disc outside her window as the house settled peacefully.
As the night wore on however, the little girl stirred, images flashing behind closed eyelids of a person she'd loved but was gone now, never to return to her outstretched arms. Blood spattering the ground as her loved one lay dying upon the cool dark earth, scarlet staining the earth almost black. Dark eyes flew open as a heart fluttered rapidly, the memory/dream dissipating as she filled her lungs deeply with air.
So much could change in the blink of an eye, a life could be snuffed out as easily as a candle could be blown out. It only took a moment for the little girls life to change forever. Always having been a fearful soul, she vowed that she would not allow herself to be so afraid because she had to be brave, she had to prove that she wasn't the scared little girl she used to be. Many times in school, the little girl was teased and made fun of for her constant fear, the only one protecting her her twin who was as fearless as she was fearful.
The little girl sat up, blinking away her tiredness as she gazed out the window to see the first rays of sunlight peaking over the horizon. It was a special day, she wasn't sure why it was but it was. She looked to the calendar at her bedside table before realizing today would have been Keanus 20th birthday. Shouldn't they all be celebrating? How could they celebrate though when Keanu was gone, having died almost two years ago in the games.
The little girl sat up, stretching her arms over her head before standing, wondering if any of her siblings would feel like she did and that was like someone had handed her a death sentence. She didn't know why but she felt like someone was once again dangling her brother in front of her, just out of reach. She missed him, she missed him so badly it hurt.
Silently, she snuck into her eldest sisters room, hoping to find comfort in the only other person who might actually care enough to give a shit about todays importance. She stood at the edge of the bed, trying not to cry as she looked down at Spiders sleeping form and softly called out. "Spider?" she asked softly, wondering if her sister would answer.
