It’s too soon to start training. Yet I feel drawn to any place that would allow me to exercise. I guess I’m an addict to physical acitivty and when I have to sit or lay on my ass too long I get restless.
Today is no different. Lately I’ve been working out at the academy and the only other place that provides the same level of high quality training equipment in town is the career training center.
So I decided tohave a look around, see if they’ll let a former career, who’s fallen from grace use it. Maybe I can redeem myself somehow.
My step is slower than usually because I want to avoid any sort of pain that could still come from my still healing back. It’s also a matter of insecurity about the reaction of people here. Have they seen my punishment on the news? Do they know I’m a ‘convicted felon’ even if it’s a minor offense?
When I cross through the gate of the center I can only see a few younger kids making their way to one of the classes in the gym, no trainer, so I decide to go talk to the staff in the office first.
I leave the door behind me pen as an escape route.
To my big surprise they don’t seem too worried about my past. On the contrary, one of the people there is my former who pulls me into a very friendly hug, claps meon the back and cheers. “Matthew, didn’t think I’d see you again now that you’re becoming a peace keeper.”
I bite back a scream that wants to slip from my lips because of his friendly gesture that fell on my healing wounds. “I guess you haven’t heard…they booted me.”
He gives me a quizzical look by I smply state. “Long story.”
Judging by the look on the younger woman’s face next to him she knows exactly what kind of story that would be.
“I was wondering whether you’d let me use some of the weights and maybe I can can sparr with somebody here?”
He lifts his brows and smiles. “Of course, Matt. Anytime. Maybe you can even show some of the kids a few tircks.”
“Yeah maybe.”
With that I backtrack out of the office and down the stairs towards the gym, where two classes are in session and some other people are coming in from the changing rooms.
