Hello friends!
We hope that you're having a fun time with the writing festival, the pre-games madness and the ending of the Olympics! We've had a grand old time putting it on for you.
We're just here with a little reminder as we make our way into Autumn.
You're not in trouble! Don't freak out, and stop making the 'ooo' sound you make when a kid gets sent to the Principal's office, that ain't what's happening here either.
It has come to the attention of us staff that some people are getting confused about the technology allowed in The Districts.
We just wanted to remind you all that Panem is in fact a Totalitarian state. This means that society is controlled completely by the Capitol, as well as all forms of communication. Media outlets are all in control of the Capitol, as shown in the movies and mentioned in the series. One is not going to flick on their television to watch 'Happy Days' or a similar program. Most likely all that will be found are games, games re-runs and Capitol propaganda.
This also means that any forms of communication between districts as well as within are also not allowed. These include but are not limited to: cellphones, telephones, wifi (no internet), letters and messages tied to bird feet. The only exceptions are the telephones in the Victor's village. On top of this, the Districts definitely do not have the same tech as The Capitol. Even District One, the richest district is poor in comparison. This means that the only forms of transport are: feet, other people's feet, bicycles, horses, carts pulled by animals, carts pulled by other people that have feet, being carried by people with feet. Feet.
There is absolutely no travelling between districts unless one is a wanderer. This means that one cannot be born in District Three and move to District Four. This is a a country that is kept locked up in cage-like communities and is forced to participate in a death match each year. They do not have many rights. Travel is not one of those rights.
The only characters that may travel are Wanderers or Peacekeepers.
I'm glad we've cleared that up!
Remember: Dictatorship Dystopian Totalitarian thing happening here, not happy freedom world!
Thanks,
The Staff.
