Last one, then I could go home. Little box so light I could tuck it under my arm and run full speed. The faster I got the job over with, the faster I could go home and relax. There was something fun about going to people's houses with things. Most of the time, they were happy to get something. There were weeks it felt like I was going to the same house over and over, then there were weeks like this one, where everyone was getting their first mail in ages. I had stopped wondering what was inside boxes during my first week with the job, and I wasn't that curious when I knocked on a door. I took the package out from under my arm and shook my leg a little. That was a lot farther to run than I thought it would be.

The person opens the door and I smile. "Got a package for you, Ms, uh," I look at the name on the box.

Cygnet Marsh

The past weeks have been a struggle on you, the stress from your family, about not doing them proud in the games has been wearing you down. A faint knocking sound breaks your thoughts, and you walk from your solace; the bedroom, and you go down the stairs to the door. The mirror next to the door shines your form back to yourself, and you don't look as miserable as your thoughts make you feel. Above the mirror was a window, and that's where you look out of next, peering to the girl outside of your front door. It looked like a delivery girl, and that's when you decide to open the door.

The young girl smiles at you, and you smile back. "Got a package for you, Ms, uh..." She looks at the package, and tries to read the name on the box. You open your mouth to help her. "Marsh. Cygnet Marsh. Is the package for me, or my mother?"

The girl smiles, and I feel more confident in talking to her. Some people tended to grouch towards random people at their door. "Marsh. Cygnet Marsh. Is the package for me, or my mother?" she inquires. I glance back down at the name on the package. "It just says Marsh, nothing else," I say, and offer the package towards her. I glance over her for a second, then momentarily forget about her. I was itching to get home, to see my mom, eat dinner, and go to bed. Long days needed long rest. Today might be a day I could get that. No work tomorrow.

I wait for her to take the box, then wait for my tip. She takes a second, and I wonder if I should ask. I was paid with tips, not by the mail room.

You wait for her answer, but you didn't end up waiting for that long, as she looks down to the package. "It just says Marsh, nothing else," as she offered the parcel to you. You take it carefully; you don't get many parcels in your family, with most people just delivering their own stuff to the person needing it. Your mother would be coming home soon, and you follow her rules; you always give a tip. You put the package on the floor behind you, and fish in your pocket for money. When you pull your hand out, you give her what's in it; a note and a couple of coins. "Thank you," you say to her. "Have a nice day now?" You smile at the girl and carefully pick up the package and shut the door.

I let her drop a few coins in my hand, as well as a note, and smile at her again. She takes the package from me and I put the money in my pocket. For a few moments, I stand there awkwardly with my hands in my pockets. Just as I begin to turn around, I hear her thank me and shut the door. Okay, time to head home. Home, where I could go to sleep. As I walk down her front yard I imagine what I would do when I got home. Probably eat an apple or something. I couldn't go to bed too quickly, I needed to eat something first. I focus on a tree about thirty feet ahead of me and plan to start my run when I reached it, but before I do I turn around to look at the house I was leaving.

Deciding it was unworthy of extra attention, I shrug my shoulders and keep walking. I forgot about it three steps later.
