Winter winds danced and swirled through district eleven as small drops of frozen water began spreading across the ground. Snow was such a rare thing here. Only seen when the dark of the clouds was just right. Along with the coldest temperature of the year. Although beauty did lie behind each flake of snow. Great danger hung present in the ever lasting chill of winter. During this time of year seeing a frozen corpse wasn't uncommon. Neither was that of men, women, and children being whipped or shot for attempting to steal things of warmth.
Today Kirito stumbled around a small knick-knack shop in the district square. Typically he would never come here since all his money went towards things to keep his family alive and well. Yet this time of year was always special. Each year he would save up money over time and come to this very shop. Each year he would spend many minutes searching for just the right gift for his brother. He tried at first to get things for his mother but she was too scornful and told him only to care for her brother. So as a responsible child, he listened and obeyed.
His gleaming brown eyes flew from shelf to shelf searching for anything his brother would adore. He wouldn't simply get him clothes or new farming tools. This gift had to be special and not related to his perilous job. Ikaia always worked so hard and never got enough credit for it. Sure Kirito always thanked him and complimented how strong a man he was. However, Kirito always wanted a way to really show Ikaia how much he cared. Kirito's mind flashed back to a thought he always had. He knew he loved his brother, like really loved him, yet there was one thing he hadn't given him yet. His existence to say cleanly. Sure Kirito wouldn't mind it yet he wasn't prepared and he knew his brother understood so he should let it go right?
Kirito shook his head in anguish and smacked a nearby shelf causing something to fall perfectly into his hands. A grin strecthed itself a mile wide across his face when he saw it. The most perfect gift he could find and just barely in his price range. There sitting in his cupped hands was a bronze rose pendant. Sure most people would find it useless but not Kirito. It reminded him of Ikaia and hopefully when Ikaia was working hard in the fields it would remind him or Kirito and how much he loved him and appreciated his hard work. With a giddy shriek of excitement he rushed to the cashier and paid.
Kirito then began sprinting home against the snowy ground as he wistled an exciting tune his mother use to always whistle. Once his house came into sight he ran even faster until he slammed the door behind him. Another smile ran across his cheeks when he noticed his brother wasn't back yet. Quickly he placed the gift in a small wooden box and wrapped in in hay paper. Then taking his favorite quill he wrote sweetly in his female like writing on a small note, I love you-Kirito. With a clap of success he continued preparing for Ikaia's arrival.
He made a low fire to keep Ikaia warm and started brewing some of his "famous tea" that all his neighbors adored. Then he began preparing a small meal of boiled beans and toast. Only once mother was fed and put to bed and dinner was set did he hear the door open. Swiftly grabbing the present and hiding it behind him he watched Ikaia walk in. Kirito's heart beat like a stampede of beasts as he walked up and planted a light kiss on Ikaia's cheek. Then sweetly he said "Welcum back, I done went and gotcha this." Then carefully he placed the wrapped gift and note into Ikaia's hands with a bright smile on his face.
