Name: Axel "Lela" Avaross
Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: District 6
Appearance:
Lela is what some could consider pretty. Her mother was, certainly, but those who knew the family complained too much of her father seeped into her. Her face is fairly rounded, fairly slim, but her jaw takes on a bit more of an angular shape, which she thinks is imbalanced and does not like. She has wide, big eyes, giving her an innocent look, a dull brown color. Her hair is a dirty blonde, often could be considered brown, and though she likes it long, keeps to usually to just below her breasts, it wouldn't be safe around the house - or district - for it to be longer, so many gears, so many machines. She's got small, thin lips, and is slightly freckled, though they're all light. Easily missed.
She's a short girl, standing at only five feet, three inches. As well, she is underweight - only slightly. Her family's got no more than anyone else, and her father does quite like to eat. She's not starving. She doesn't wear too much exciting either - mostly whatever she has is accented by a shirt belonging to her father, which she could swim in. She almost always has some form of grease on her from being touched by either her or her brother. Altogether, she doesn't look terribly clean often. It bothers her, but she's used to it. It comes with living in district six, she says.
Personality:
Lela is an eternal optimist. Despite the situation around her, she still believes that someday in her lifetime everything could be okay. Perhaps some year the games could be honorary - she always tells her friends that if she were a gamemaker, and a quarter quell came along, she'd make the event with fake weapons. If you were hit by one of them, you'd hear a cannon and you'd get taken out, and whoever didn't have been "fatally" touched by one, they'd win. And the victory tour would be with all of them, it'd be amazing. But, as her friends say, she's a tad crazy for thinking that. She wants it to be true some day, but she can't do anything to make it happen. That won't stop her hoping though. Hope, were it a person, would be her best friend, and possibly her worst enemy. Because of it, she often will subconsciously refuse to see how bad a situation really is.
She's tradtionally quite girly, but doesn't really get to express that much in her appearance in her district, and so does so through her personality. She's a giggly girl, nearly always smiling, always trying to make a bad situation better, but she's not good at it. She sometimes doesn't see the line where joking about a situation becomes insenstitive, but remains eternally apologetic about those mistakes. She always goes in with good intentions, and can never work out why it doesn't always work out. It should have, didn't she mean well? She thinks that good intentions make everything better, and hasn't yet realized that it doesn't.
She can be a little childish, still wishing on stars and walking around humming little children's rhymes. She enjoys spending time with little children, hoping one day that, instead of a travel related job - she's horrible with machinery - she could watch other's kids, but knows, somewhere in the back of her mind, she'll probably end up a baggage handler. She's a careful person, after all, she would be great for that. However, doesn't everyone need to do something with their kids during the day? It's another silly hope of hers, she has too many. Lela's friendly, always there to be someone's friend, but occasionally finds herself pulled too thin because of her willingness to befriend everyone. That won't keep her from trying, but it means she ends up with a lot of acquaintences and few actual friends. She still calls them all "friends" however.
History:
Lela's mother wanted to have two boys. They'd already named the first, Rocky, to his mother's liking, and his father wanted their second son named Axel - he thought it was a great name, and since he worked as a mechanic, he'd had a lot of time to think about profession-related names, much to Lela's chagrin later. When their second child came out a girl, they named her Axel anyway, and as she grew older, they nicknamed her Lela. The name seemed to fit the young girl, the nickname coming from her constant singing. She couldn't remember the words to most children's rhymes yet, so she would "la la la" her way through them, but her "a"s were hard at the time, leading her to "le la la" her way through songs. From then on, she was Lela.
Her family, with just her, her parents and her brother, has been quite okay over the years. She didn't know her grandparents - no reason to be sad about that - and her brother is but a year older than her. They've always been somewhat close, but when he turned seventeen he went to work and Lela stayed behind. Rocky was fit to be a mechanic - and he loved it, anyway. Her mother stayed home with her, and she continued with school for a while longer. The family's been close forever, but now that her brother's at work, him and their father have gotten closer, along with Lela and her mother, and they've been unfortunately quite separate.
Some of Lela's friends say she's lucky, that no major emergencies or tradgedies have happened in her family - neither of them had been reaped, as of their 17th and 16th birthdays, and they haven't experienced too much hardship - sure her father's just a mechanic, but they're not starving - and it helped lead to the dreamy way the girl ended up. Her life has been surprisingly fine, why shouldn't everyone else's?
