{district nine : 69th tribute}
One good thing about the Capitol is the food. Never in my entire life had I laid my eyes on so much food. At home, eating was a miracle, and many nights my stomach begged for food as I rested my head against a hard pillow. Many nights I told myself I would find something to eat the next day. It's no wonder my stomach sunk in so far making my ribs noticeable. Counting them became easy. I don't even have to try. Yet here at the Capitol people are eating left and right. They're throwing food down their throats like it's nothing. And they have more! I've never seen the food cart run empty. None of these Capitol citizens run around with their stomachs sunken so far back it's eating backbones. My stomach does that one a daily basis. At least here, I can eat until I feel like I couldn't eat another bite. Now that's a pleasantry.
Walking through the dining hall with a plate in my hand, I pile plenty of food. Some of the food I've never seen before, yet some of it I find from district nine. Stuff I use to enjoy when I was at home, but today it's nothing. None of this should be enjoyable. It's a fucking trap the Capitol has for us. Fattening us up for the games. It's stupid, but I can't deny myself some food. Gaining weight might be important especially when I'm tossed into that damned arena. Who knows what the Capitol has planned for us. Who knows what type of arena it'll be. It could be hot. It could be cold. It could be a fucking desert without any food for all I know, but none of that matters right now. None of that matters when I'm about to indulge myself in the most food I've ever ate in my entire life.
Once my plate is full, I scan the area looking for a place that's quiet and away from everyone. Making friends isn't an option, and I made sure my district partner understood that. They're all the enemy, and I can't wait to fight them. To kill them because then I'll be able to smile from ear to ear. Finding an empty table in one of the corners I head over to it with my head down. Saliva pools to the corners of my mouth as the smell of each piece of food flies deep into my nose. I only hope it taste as good as it looks. If it doesn't someone will have some explaining to do.
