Kolton Enim

I hurry up to the roof after my interview. It doesn't seem we have to listen to our mentors rambling on about the games that lie ahead of us; for a moment I forget they're tomorrow and I am happy for the briefest second but as I bound up the stairs, I find myself catching my breath and remembering where I am. I pause, shake it off, before I push open the door to the roof.

The city is aglow again, the city lights shine a spectrum of colours, like a night time rainbow hanging low over the city. The rooftop is empty, void of anyone else and I frown. Where is everyone? I ask myself, glancing around the garden, in search of my friends. They were all supposed to come to the roof straight after their interviews, we were supposed to have one last night as what we are- kids- but none of them are here yet. I shrug, expecting they're just running late or watching the rest of the interviews, and sit down on a bench.

After sitting and waiting for all that time, I'm finally free. Well, free to go to the roof. I'm free in almost no other sense. As I race up the stairs I think of how this past week has gone. It's been crazy. I've made many friends, and I've made a couple of enemies. In fact, I'm going to the roof to meet one of my friends right now. It's really three friends. We agreed to meet on the roof after the interviews. But I'm not totally sure how well that will work out basing my prediction on how long it took me to finally get up here.

I reach the top of the stairs finally, stopping to place my hands on my knees and catch my breath. My throat is ragged and it hurts to breath like that. I concentrate on trying to moisten my mouth. I never realized how truly difficult it is to force spit into your mouth. Finally, after a few minutes, I feel presentable enough to enter the rooftop. I push open the door to find Kolton standing there, looking as regal as ever, waiting.

The tight dress is making me suffocate - it was specially designed to push in the stomach and push out the chest, and in the process I feel like I can't breathe. But my stylist tells me to bear the pain and deal with it - of course, the freakish citizens of the Capitol can bear pain; they go through tons of surgery just to make themselves look even more ridiculous. Cat whiskers and tails, claws, and so much more bizarre stuff. I just don't understand why they consider that 'beauty'.

I don't want to stay in the apartment tonight. It's too quiet and lonely, and besides, my alliance has agreed to meet on the rooftop. I hold up my dress on the stairs as I try as best as I can to rush up when these heels are making me nearly twist my ankle on every corner.

Kolton and Zeki are already there when I arrive, but there's no sign of Dillon yet. I walk towards them, the red dress still clenching tight against my stomach. I hope they don't realize that I'm struggling to breathe.

The interview was absolutely horrible from Dillon's perspective. There's a reason why she was only a Dj back in District Three, and not one of the dancers in the group she called family. She's always hated the spotlight. Once it comes to a stage, and a large hushed audience, her wit and sense of humor vanishes. The only way she impresses is through her music, not her personality. It's a huge relief when she finally steps off the stage, and she's hidden from all those cameras and staring eyes. The arrangement she held with the friends she's made here is lost among the whirlwind from what just happened. She only stares up at one of the screens, and watches her District Partner answer those same brutal questions from Caesar.

It's not until she sees Zeki escaping out a door, that she remembers their plans. "Pull yourself together." She mutters to herself as she begins to slowly follow. "Was just an interview." is spoken out loud in an attempt to convincer herself of that. It won't matter once they're all in the Arena. She presses a button to call an elevator, and notices she's lost Zeki. None of her teammates are around. Did they forget to?

Instinctively she pushes the number 3, mumbling to herself once more for her mistake. "...Or maybe that was meant to happen." She considers and steps onto her floor. For some reason she just can't roll the interview off of her shoulder, and she knows just what to grab to fix that. With a bottle of liquor she continues her journey up to the top of the building.

"You guys are so quiet." She greets when she reaches the roof, finding all three of her alliance members being as silent as a mouse. "Brought something that might help with that." Everyone knows that chatter always begins when alcohol hits the system. Why not enjoy this last opportunity tonight?

Kolton Enim

Its not long before Zeki joins me on the roof. He's dressed smart, like me, and he is quiet when he steps out onto the rooftop. There is certainly a sombre atmosphere up here, it is as if we are about to attend the funeral of someone we love; or perhaps this is our funeral. I nod at Zeki, silently welcoming him even though there is no need to.

Quartz arrives on the roof- she wears a red dress which makes her chest more obvious- it tries to make her look like she's got an hourglass figure and it works- kinda. They have painted her face to try make her look beautiful, but I think she looked prettier without it. I wonder for a moment if she can actually breath in that thing when Dillon arrives.

"You guys are so quiet." she says, causing me to turn in her direction "Brought something that might help with that."

I glance to her hands where I see a bottle of alcohol. I chuckle lightly, remembering what happened last time I drank alcohol. I shake my head, grinning "I- think..." I say, stepping back to sit on the edge of a bench "I'll sit out of this one...where did you even get that?" I ask, even though I know the answer.

The whole gang finally arrives, each of us in our crazy outfits. Kolton and I were fortunate enough to be dressed more similarly to a regular human being, but the girls were not so fortunate. Their outfits make me feel a combination of guilt and child-like euphoria. I want to tell them I'm sorry for what they have been forced into wearing, but also I want to laugh at the ridiculous clothes that surround their bodies.

Dillon has brought alcohol. I know I shouldn't. I know I shouldn't. Not the night before the Games. I understand the sentiment behind the bottle, though. She's an incredibly sweet soul, I've noticed that, but I find that she has trouble expressing that in orthodox and appropriate ways. After Kolton's straight up refusal to Dillon's party offering, I try to let her down more lightly, also to give her some advice to keep her around longer.

"I wouldn't mind a drink," I start. "But I think that I'd prefer to not have a hangover during the Hunger Games that we're participating in." Then realizing that was still quite a rude response, I add, "Maybe if we'd thought of this earlier on during the week."

God knows how much I would've needed a drink during that time. And He knows how much I need one now. Part of me is thankful though, the part of me that wants to retain its innocence. At least as much innocence as I can retain before I enter the Hunger Games.
