So won't you fly with me
I wanna make you feel alright, alright with me
The rain pounded on the windows and the roof of Avis Hibou's small home located near the center of District Six. She was in her bedroom, seated in a chair near her window. As she looked out at the streets, she could see the raindrops splashing in the puddles. For some reason, this was very soothing to her. Deep in thought, Avis's mind was more focused on recent events than anything else. The reaping had happened recently, and she was lucky enough not to be chosen. Even better, she didn't know the tribute. Then again, was that a good thing that she wasn't chosen? She didn't like to be happy about someone else having to fight to the death. Though, she wouldn't want to be the one to have to do that either. She tried to shake that thought from her mind, but she couldn't manage to.
There was one thing in all of these conflicting thoughts racing through her mind that she could actually appreciate. At this point in the games, despite only the first day having passed, neither tribute from her district was dead. She was glad to see that both of the tributes reaped in District Six were alive. It did sadden her to see the others dead, but at least she didn't feel as much guilt about not being the one to go in for herself. Avis drummed her fingers on the windowsill as she continued to gaze down at the street. Very few people were out in the pouring rain. Only one or two could be seen racing through it, trying their best to stay dry.
After a little bit longer of just staring out the window, down to the streets while deep in thought, Avis stood up from her chair. She went over to her bed and decided to lie down on it, resting her eyes for a bit. She wasn't going to fall asleep, if she could help it. Though, Avis did fall asleep. The soothing sound of the raindrops, no matter how harshly they were coming down, eased her into sleep. Her dream that followed was very vivid and rather frightening.
Run, that was all she could do. Something was chasing her, but she didn't know what. Avis ducked behind some trees as the creature that had been pursuing her stopped in its tracks, sniffing the ground to find her. It stopped sniffing, and knew exactly where Avis was. Avis began to shake. She was nervous. What was this creature going to do to her? It had spotted her, just then. Darting towards Avis, it then pounced, knocking her down.
That was when she awoke. She was shaking and scared. Her dream had went by so quickly, yet by the time she had woken up, the rain had stopped. She got up from her bed, and looked out the window again. It was a bit brighter outside than it had been before. The clouds had ended up clearing a bit. The sky didn't appear to be as dark, gloomy and menacing. The ground was still visibly wet with puddles, but Avis could tell she must have been asleep for at least an hour. She hadn't even wanted to fall asleep in the first place. She knew that she shouldn't have fallen asleep. Whenever she rested the past few nights, she'd go into a deep state of sleep where she'd always be getting attacked by something. She'd get injured somehow, or close to it, and then awaken. They always startled her, and she woke up shaking. This had caused her to be extremely tired. She didn't want to sleep, these past few days, afraid of the dreams that might occur.
Deciding that going for a walk may be her best bet, she headed to the main room of the house. Going over near the front door, she got her coat and slipped it on. Putting on some rain boots that she had managed to purchase not too long ago with the small amount of earnings she had, Avis turned the doorknob and opened the door, heading outside. When she got outside and closed the door behind her, she began walking down the street. She was deep in thought for the second time that day. The slight breeze chilled her face while she walked. As she continued down the sidewalk, she reached the corner of the street and turned right. Avoiding puddles as she walked, she soon approached a small field. It was muddy, but she would be able to walk through it just fine with the boots she was wearing. After she crossed the field, she was on another sidewalk. Cutting through the field was just a bit of a shortcut she had learned to take in order to get to the other side of the district. When Avis got to that other sidewalk, she walked a bit more, and came to a bench. It was wet, so she didn't sit on it, and simply stood there, leaning against a tree behind it. She watched people pass by, until one person seemed to catch her eye.
