Four Walls and a Roof | Mystic

I had been hit by a hurricane. A hurricane of broken bones and bleeding thrones. I was surrounded by the fallen corpses of beaten children, and no, I wasn't talking about the dead.

The polar air navigates it way through my windpipes. Bursting back out into a puff of smoke. How long had I been watching them? Watching them rest their heads on the frozen ground below them. I can't sleep, I won't sleep. My sight was on the girls, they were safe for tonight, huddled up under a mound of formed ice. I could hear the tremble of their exhale, and observe the shivers of their spins. I wished there was more that I could do. My eyes avert the attention to my hands, they were cut and callused. Each cut and bruise filled with dry blood of my own, and the earths dirt, buried somewhere underneath.

She was strong, she had goals and knew how to execute them. She reminded me of my oldest brother when he was her age. He always seemed so determined, and maybe that's why he lives so worry free. I'm sure he was resting under the warmth of his home, feeling his arms around the waste of his lover. His life had appeared seamless. Its odd, how much a persons views change when they are put in a life threatening situation.

I no longer envied him, I no longer wanted for a life of my own. I simply wanted for my survival, and perhaps that was selfish.

I tear finds its path down the apple of my cheek. I knew there was no saving all of us. So how would it end?

Tonight we sleep, we eat and dine, but never wonder who was left behind. For if we stare to far astray, we will never live to breath another day.
