Appearance:
Anouka is a beautiful woman. She wasn't always, though, but puberty hit her like a steamroller on asphalt. She quickly spouted up, but didn't end up too tall. She stays at a comfortably short height of five feet tall and six inches. Which she may call short, but is actually close to the average height for a woman. She also has a very graceful hourglass figure, full, but not fat, and petite, but not skinny. Her muscles aren't anything to gawk at, but she has them. Working in District Eleven has at least a couple perks. She keeps up her muscle tone, but doesn't want to gain too much. She says that appearing too muscly can cause suspicion as well as repel potential lovers. She loves to keep her hair in the right fashion as well. It's long, straight, and jet black. Since it's black, it attracts heat and will cause her to sweat a great deal when she's out in the sun. So as a solution, she puts it in a ponytail on extra hot days.
Her face is the thing that really changed, though when she hit puberty. It became much more eloquent and soft. Her face has a contour line that, if followed, never has any points or extreme definition, making her appear almost like she has a perpetual light shining behind her head. She does have defined cheekbones, though, and anybody who even looks at her face can tell that she does. They are high up, seemingly outlining her eyes, which seem like they can never really decide what color they want to be. For the most part, in the sun or bright light, her eyes appear golden, and in dimmer lighting her eyes appear as a pale blue. Her lips appear just as soft as the rest of her face, a rich, but somewhat faded pink. They seamlessly blend into the rest of her face and her skinny, protruding nose seems to perch atop them.
Personality:
Anouka is an incredibly wishy-washy person. She has many morals and goals set, but when it comes time to prove that she has them, she can't. The one example that sticks to her the most is the time she vowed to never let anyone be bullied if she could do something about it. She'll defend the person to death, but only verbally, and not during the matter. She'll chew them out before or after, but never during. When the kid got beat up, she turned her cheek, but only after the kid was beat up did she say anything to the bully. She keeps telling herself she'll be better about that, that she'll start being more confident, but no matter what she does to prepare herself, her confidence always falls through when the potential risks involve her.
Fortunately, though, there's a good side to this. She's nice to everyone all the time. She doesn't like to rock the boat and stir the water. She knows that treating everyone how she wants to be treated is the way to avoid enemies. Because of this, she's typically known as, "that nice girl." The only thing is that people can't tell she's full of inner turmoil. She has a need for everyone's approval, because she strives for perfection. Striving for perfection is something that most people do anyways, but she takes it just a bit farther than that. She bases almost all of her thoughts on herself off of everybody else's. She can't be happy unless everyone likes her, and no matter how hard she tries, she can't make everybody like her.
And because she's so dependent on other people's opinions, she's built a very good barrier. Not against the outside, though, against herself. It's almost as if she's isolated herself from the outside. Because she could never let other people know that she actually has her own opinions. That she actually doesn't like some people. That is she isn't actually perpetually happy. Because of this, she often feels trapped and like she's looking in from the outside. But every time that feeling overtakes her, she builds the wall back up and thicker. It's for the greater good.
History:
Anouka has grown up with what could only be called the perfect life. Or rather, stereotypical life. She has two parents and a younger brother. She's gone to school for practically her whole life. Unfortunately, things aren't always as they seem. Although Anouka's parents love her a lot, they've kept a secret from her and Anouka's brother. Anouka's parents never actually loved each other, and don't to this very day. They got together because Anouka's father got Anouka's mother pregnant...with Anouka. And to save face, they quickly got engaged and then married, so as to make the baby's arrival seem as the result of their honeymoon and not out-of-wedlock sex. They wouldn't have hid it, but both of their parents (Anouka's grandparents) were big believers in abstinence and purity until marriage.
Because of this face-saving marriage, Anouka may have grown up with two parents, a brother, a nice house, and everything a kid could want, but she didn't grow up with the love that comes from two parents who are in love. Of course, this isn't the entire reason she's so obsessed with other people's approval, but it certainly plays a part in it. Anouka grew up being told and taught that what other people think of her matters a great deal, and although that's true, Anouka took that to mean that other people's opinions are all that matter. So Anouka has grown up trying to impress others, by being an aggressive trainee and an over-achieving student. For the most part, her struggles have paid off.
Anouka has now become more invested in her social life rather than her family life. And although that's always bound to happen, she has come to not really appreciate her family. She loves being around her friends, because there she's always surrounded by compliments and laughing. Just a good time in general all around. At home she feels like there is nothing else to get out of the experience. Each and everyday when she returns home, her parents ask her how her day was and she answers with, "Good." And that's almost all the dialogue that takes place, unless some event had taken place the same day or something along the lines of that. Anouka isn't very close to her brother either. They mostly spend their time away from one another, occasionally hanging out together when they're both stuck at home.
