Appearance:

Aspen has long, wavy brown hair and dark brown eyes. Her face is friendly and slightly childish since she is only 13. It is starting to slim out a tiny bit though. She is about 5'2" and weighs about 85 pounds since she is more well fed than many of the others in District 12. She is not super fast or super strong, but a little bit above average for her age. Her nose is not abnormally large or small, but it has a small bump on the bridge. She has slightly oversized ears, and her teeth are pretty straight, but not perfect.

Her skin is a medium tone, and a small, tan birthmark is on her right thigh. She is not super pretty, but not ugly either. Most of the time she is clean due to her being one of the more privileged children. A little bit of acne is on her chest, back, and face (but hey, she's a teen without ProActive). Her torso is kind of short, which makes her legs look long. She is also kind of awkward and that is very visible at times.

Personality:

Where do I start with Aspen? She can be quite strange and socially awkward. She means well, but sometimes unintentionally offends people. Her optimistic, friendly personality makes up for that though and helps her make friends. She is not really a conversation starter and kind of likes to fade in the background, but when you get her talking she might never shut up. Her friends may call her strange, but nice.

In school she gets good grades and is pretty intelligent. Her mind just picks up things on its own so she has a pretty good memory. On the outside she is kind and almost always friendly, even when on the inside she is seriously irritated. She is determined and kind of stubborn, but still respect authority. Also, she finds courage in times of need. One of her biggest fears is her, her brother, or one of her friends getting reaped.

She has a love of nature and plants and animals. Her family owns a few animals and a small garden and she helps take care of their "farm". Her mother has a little bookshelf with books about plants and animals, though they are very old so she must take good care of them, and she loves to read. Her and the other town kids also play games on their street that she really enjoys. She is very protective of her friends and family and would do almost anything for them. Every year she dreads the reaping and wishes a day would come that she might not have to worry about it. She is also afraid of failure.

History:

Aspen lives with her 16 year old brother, Yarrow, and her parents in the merchant section. Her mother is one of the teachers at the school and her father owns a wood carving shop below their house. He carves dishes, beds, etc. and then uses part of the money to buy more lumber, and carves more things to sell. She has lived there since she was born. Her parents also grew up in the merchant section. Her best friend is one of the poorer kids who lives in the seam with a coal miner father and a mother who stays home.

Aspen has always loved nature, books, and playing games with the other merchant kids. She also likes having adventures with her best friend and (without her parents knowledge) the two go to the hob. Aspen has carved little things out of scraps of wood and traded them at the hob since she was 10, but not too often because her parents would notice or she could get caught by peacekeepers. Even though they come from two totally different parts of the district, Aspen and Willow are two peas in a pod. Aspen goes to Willow's house to be taught things like tying knots and being resourceful and Willow goes to Aspen's to read and learn about all sorts of things from books. They wouldn't know what to do without each other.

Aspen has always been well off by being from one of the richer parts of the district. She has lots of friends and pretty nice things compared to the other citizens. She hasn't yet grasped how awful things are elsewhere. She is starting to get an idea on how the Capitol really is, but knows it would take a lot to change anything. A lot that she doesn't have. He parents have always protected her, but as she grows up, the list grows of things they can't protect her from. She obviously would not be able to start anything remotely close to rebellion.
