Welcome one, welcome all to District One's festival of note: the Daylight of the Jewels. This festival has been a long time coming, and District One would like to thank all of those who helped make it possible. In addition, we would like to honor all those who will be competing in the tournament of combat. Without our brave citizens, Panem would be nothing, and certainly not District One.
Today, the sun is rising, and it sparkles in the sky. The square is brightly colored, decorated with shimmering banners and large balloons that explode when touched, leaving confetti in their wake. The wide central plaza has given birth to a labyrinth of different booths. Merchants set out their glittering wares in the open, but everything is half-price. There will be no burdensome expenses today.
Far off you can hear the laughter of children playing carnival games. A girl exclaims over the beautiful necklace her lover has bought her. Music rings from every corner, and the smell of food fills the air. As you crawl into the heart of the square you see a wide dance floor surrounded by the choicest attractions. In the middle, there has been a silver pole set up. Tacked to it is a piece of paper announcing the times of each fight. Twinkling in its glass case, far too high for anyone else to reach it, is a beautiful crown. It is reserved for the winner of the tournament alone.
