Name: Coralie Erika Blake
Age: 15 years old
Gender: Female
District/Area: Capitol
Appearance:
She has a sweet face, the kind that makes you trust her even if you aren't entirely sure why. Surely no bad intentions lie behind the hazel eyes that are always at a slight sparkle, like she knows some happy secret that you don't. Trust me, the upwards tilt of her lips beg. If you see the entirety of her face, though, you are lucky. Her brunette fringe is always falling forward into her eyes, obscuring her view of the world, except when she's very concentrated. Perhaps she likes this shield, as most of the time she will leave her face half covered. Introversion, not a secret.
Despite having nice things, luxuries, she very rarely dresses as fancy as she could. Coralie is generally quite practical, choosing clothes she can move in. Not that she doesn't like to be girly sometimes, but even if she's wearing a dress it's a guarantee that it's something that won't impede her movement. She also has a thing for comfortable, easy to slip on shoes. Jewelery is not generally something she wears, but scarves...those are her weakness. Perhaps they are just another thing to hide behind, like her hair, but something about them causes her to include them in many an outfit.
Average height and weight, Cora has never thought of herself as anything special. Perhaps once or twice she has thought to herself that she was pretty, but in the capitol, pretty means very little. Appearance is a big deal, and Cora tends on the plain side.
Personality:
Yes, ma'am. No sir.
Cora has manners. You catch more flies with honey, after all. More than that, she simply doesn't see the point in being rude. Everyone is trying to live their life, and to purposefully go out of one's way to bring someone else down is not only terrible and pointless, but a waste of everyone's time.
Get in, get out. It has been her way of life for so long that simply staying still is a strange concept to the girl. It's harder to be noticed if you never dally somewhere, and Cora has never wanted the spotlight. Leave it to her older sister, or her mother, or...anyone. Just keep the eyes off of her, thanks. Besides, the faster you started a task, the faster you could finish.
Passionless, she was called in school. Not because any of her teachers disliked her, but because she would do the bare minimum and keep to herself, anything to not draw attention to herself. It was unlike a lot of the other girls in her class who would do anything for the limelight. Nothing seemed to really interest her. That was, until the Pokémutts appeared on the market. It was obvious that Cora was intrigued - she loved animals after all.
No one had any clue that Derry, the little Shinx cub that she would receive on her fifteenth birthday, would shock her awake and inspire some true passion in her. At first it was simply just their bond that kept the glow in her eyes all day at school, but once she found out about the fighting ring...
The adrenaline rush is something she had never felt before, and feeling like she is truly good at something gives her confidence. Hair pulled back from her face for once, on the battlefield commanding Derry, Coralie shows a completely different side than at any other time.
History:
Lucky, she was so lucky. At least, that's what Cora has always reminded herself. After all, she was born in the capitol, in a comfortable home, and really, they didn't have much to complain about. Oh, sure, dad might be missing more often than not by the time Cora was five, but there was nothing wrong, surely. It was all swept under the rug, and Coralie didn't even realize that her parents were drifting apart. Her uneventful life was shook up when she turned ten and her distant father didn't come home at all. First a day, then another. Before long, they had to give up hope that he'd come back.
Coralie saw him on TV one day, the man who had decided that his own fame was more important than his family. Growing up, he had been a bit harsh, but she had good memories of him playing horsey with her and swinging her around in their backyard. She had never thought he would be the sort to abandon them.
But they had each other. Arabella, Coralie's sister, two years older than her and beautiful and outspoken, and their mother. The three stuck together, although Bella spent a lot of time out with her friends rather than anywhere near mother. Coralie had never understood this - mother was kind and she did all she could for them, but Arabella constantly forgot the manners they grew up with. Still, she was an artist. She had the passion in the family, and Coralie was the quiet one that faded into the background.
Until she turned fifteen, and received a Shinx as a present. A Pokémutt, a controversial pet. They could do things that were perhaps a bit dangerous to be handing over to children, but somehow it was all legal. Cora wanted one, but she wasn't about to beg her mother for one. Instead, her eyes constantly fixed on the creatures whenever they saw one. She didn't have to beg. Opening the box with the holes in it so the little lion cub could breath was one of the best moments of her life. She met her new best friend, which was a big deal to the girl who was so shy she could scarcely talk to her classmates.
Derry went everywhere with her after school, and sometimes she even tried to sneak him to school. It was no secret that the Shinx belonged to her, and perhaps that explains why she was even approached by the other kids and invited to their fighting ring. At first, Coralie thought absolutely not. She hated the spotlight, she hated violence, and she didn't need another thing to find out she was bad at. Still, she took Derry one night, and she couldn't help but be swept up in the excitement.
Derry looked interested, too, and so she decided maybe she could try. After winning their first fight together, Coralie felt on top of the world, and Derry looked like he had found a purpose in life. She said at first she'd only participate sometimes...But Cora wanted to be the very best.
