"Vio? Please, sweetie, it's not healthy to stay in your room all the time."
"I don't care," she muttered into the wall. It was a perfect wall, all pink, no chips or cracks, no imperfections at all. It made Violet harbor an odd, irrational anger for that wall, to be so oblivious of current events. In fact, she was frustrated with life for moving on when she felt so left behind. In spite, she add, "Cia wasn't healthy, and you never bothered her."
Violet could hear a sigh from the doorway and curled herself into a tighter ball. She had always been small, but looking at her, folded into herself, she looked even tinier. She stood at a feathery 4'10". Thin, bony shoulders that were half her light, delicate frame and half from starving herself every night because of grief. She was a pitiful sight, a storm cloud in the bright, flashy pink of her bedroom, a splotch in the usual Capitol cheeriness. It was a pitiful sight.
Perhaps her parents wouldn't have hovered around her had she been older, but Violet was at a tender age of 9.
The crying girl flinched as her mother placed five thin fingers on her shoulders--- the same fingers as Violet's. She looked up at her parents with eyes red brimmed and watery, blood shot and not at all like their usual self. These brown eyes were usually soft, going along with the elegant curve to them. But right now, they looked steely and cold and chilling. Her wispy brows were knitted across her forehead, distorting her delicate face. Violet's lips, plush and bright, sticking out on her thin face, were quivering. she wiped her round, short nose with her sleeve.
"Violet, we can get you another dog," her mother said gently, brushing her dark bob of hair from her daughter's eyes.
"You don't understand!" Violet screamed, tears streaking down her full cheeks. "No one can replace Cia!" She then buried her face into her knobby knees and stubbornly refused to speak for the rest of the day.
Violet was a happy baby. She barely cried, she barely squirmed. An easy first child for Victor and Eliza, the young couple who blatantly named their one and only daughter after them. And for the most part of her considerably short lifetime, boring things happened, First steps, first words,
