Renly Myreen
Give me one good reason why I shouldn't make a change.
District 7| Male | Sixteen
District 7| Male | Sixteen
Collecting the money from his boss, Renly would smile thanking him, a well spent half day. Thankfully for Renly, he only had to work half a day. Hauling logs into carriages in this summer sun all day, would’ve most likely have killed him. Already dripping with sweat, Renly’s clothes were painted in it. A brown shirt, with its sleeves rolled up past his elbows, a pair of grey shorts which were once trousers and his trusting pair of brown boots. Waving goodbye to his workmates, he had spent the morning boasting about how he could have the afternoon to himself, although he knew some day’s they worked less hours than him.
After the reaping, Renly went back to his usual routine, worrying about his name being called could be halted for a while. Four district seven tributes, this games they could have a chance of coming home with a victor, but it still meant 3 tributes coming home in a box. For all he knew, the lumber in the carriages he filled today, could be crafted into coffins for the tributes; or even himself. Like every evening after the reaping, Renly had dinner with his family, his mother was blessed her two sons were still here and blah blah blah. The next day he was back at work, everything back to normal. Renly had never met the tributes this time around before, but with word of mouth the district was hopeful for a victor, this quell had given them some a chance.
Renly did worry about getting reaped, like every other kid in his district, but he taught himself not to think about it too much. However he had a plan in his head if it ever happened, he knew exactly what he’d do in the training, how he’d react to actually getting reaped, what he’d say in his interview. Every morning he ran for an hour before work, hoping it’d help his stamina more, after reaping age he wouldn’t stop running, he loved it. It was refreshing, it helped his body and he was able to meet lots of people. This morning’s run was a tedious one. Even in the early hours of the morning the air was very humid, he had to give up forty minutes in, as he was worried he would be too weak for work. He even thought about stripping naked, to help cool himself down, although he’d doubt the District citizens would have appreciated that.
Walking away from his work station, he’d slip his wage from the morning into his pocket. What would he do with a whole afternoon? It was midday and he hadn’t eaten since breakfast, so he thought he ought to get some lunch. On the way to his house, there was a bakers, he could get a pastry with the money he earned today. Heading that way, his mind would simply be on food.
Approaching the bakery shop, he’d push open the door, while greeting the shop owner. Renly regularly visited this place, so was a well-respected customer. Ordering a meat and potato pasty, he had just enough money to have a couple of cash left over for other things, he knew his parent’s would not be happy if he blew all his money on one outing. Taking the pasty off the shop owner, he’d exit the shop in hunt of a pleasant place to eat it.
Discovering a nice grassy patch opposite the shop, surrounded by trees, he’d sit on the grass. Beginning to munch away at the pastry, he’d watch the world of District 7 go on in front of him; People running errands, working, children playing on the streets. Resting his back on the trunk of the tree, he’d flick off his boots, allowing some air to get to his sweaty feet.
